The world may be warming up to Acupuncture, but people still know so little about the breadth of its scope as a modality. Most folks know of Acupuncture for pain relief, some know of its internal benefits in the treatment of things like sleep issues, or digestive disturbances — but too few know the benefits of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine for the treatment of the SOUL/SPIRIT.
A key concept in Chinese Philosophy is the concept of “Ming” (命) — In a nutshell, "Ming" represents the idea that each person has a predetermined life path or purpose, shaped by the cosmos, their environment, and their inherent nature. It's not just about what's going to happen, but also about who you are at a fundamental level.
Now, when it comes to cultivating one's destiny, it's all about aligning yourself with your true nature and the natural order of the universe. As infants we are closest to our “true nature” because the “acquired mind” that arises from cultural conditioning and societal expectations has not yet taken root. However, as we age we grow farther and farther from our “true self.”
This is where Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture come into play. These practices aren't just about treating physical or even mental symptoms; they're about restoring balance and harmony within the body, mind, and spirit. They can assist us in casting off the shackles the world places on us.
This all might sound a bit esoteric, but there is a long history of internal cultivation of the spirit in Chinese Medicine. The interesting thing is that to work on these layers of health it needs to be a conscious and consensual decision between the practitioner and patient.
I can’t simply needle a point that will magically lead to change at a soul-level — it needs to be a conscious goal on both of our parts.
