Have you ever seen this flag before? This is the Disability Pride Flag! In 2019, the Disability Pride Flag designed by Ann Magill began to circulate during Disability Pride Month. The flag was revised in 2021 to be more visually accessible, especially for those with visual sensitives such as epilepsy.

Here is the meaning behind each design element:

All six flag colors: Disability spans borders between nations.

Diagonal Band: Cutting across the walls and barriers that separate disabled people from society.

Red Stripe: Physical disabilities.

Gold Stripe: Neurodivergence.

White Stripe: Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities.

Blue Stripe: Psychiatric disabilities.

Green Stripe: Sensory disabilities.

Happy Disability Pride Month!

Every year in July, Disability Pride Month celebrates persons who experience disability, their identities and culture, and their positive contributions to society. It aims to change the way people think about disability and promotes all types of disability as a natural part of human diversity.

Disability Pride Month has been celebrated in the United States since July 1990 when the Americans with Disabilities Act came into law. Today, it is celebrated around the world, including in Canada, where 22 per cent or 6.2 million Canadians live with a disability.

Did you know the gold stripe in the Disability Pride Flag represents Neurodivergence?

Let’s use this month to learn about, understand, and celebrate persons with disabilities, and work together to create more respectful and inclusive communities all year long!

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Every June 21, we recognize and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada.

It’s a time to honour Indigenous history, acknowledge the ongoing impact of colonization, and commit to listening, learning, and walking the path of truth and reconciliation together.

Let us celebrate, reflect, and stand in solidarity.

To everyone who joined us for the Bright Night for Autism Gala — thank you! It meant the world to see so many of you there. The room was filled with warmth, connection, and an undeniable sense of community, and we were truly moved by every conversation, every story, and every smile.

This night wasn’t just a celebration — it was a reminder of the strength and love that defines our autism community in Alberta. Seeing our families, participants, and supporters come together reminded us why we do this work, and why we must keep going.

We’re also incredibly grateful to our sponsors, whose generosity made the evening unforgettable: Aman Builders, J and J Coatings, Booster Juice, Donnelly & Co. LLP, Gibson Energy, 3GL, M Print, Encore, and Global Edmonton.

And to our table sponsors — Insight Psychological, Bayshore Healthcare, TML Consulting, Fountain Tire, Infinity Healthcare, and Carstar Construction — thank you for standing with us and believing in our mission.

We already can’t wait to gather again in 2027!

Thank you for being part of this unforgettable night. We loved seeing you there.

Thank You for Making the Bright Night for Autism Gala Unforgettable

To everyone who joined us on Saturday for the Bright Night for Autism Gala — thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The evening was more than just a celebration; it was a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and love that exists within our community. Because of you — our families, participants, and supporters — the event was a tremendous success.

Your presence, your stories, and your unwavering support are what make the Centre thrive. You are the heart of everything we do, and your courage inspires us to keep pushing forward in our mission to serve the autism community across Alberta.

We are deeply grateful to our incredible sponsors whose generosity made this night possible:
Aman Builders, J and J Coatings, Booster Juice, Donnelly & Co. LLP, Gibson Energy, 3GL, M Print, Encore, and Global Edmonton.

A special thank you as well to our table sponsors: Insight Psychological, Bayshore Healthcare, TML Consulting, Fountain Tire, Infinity Healthcare, and Carstar Construction. Your belief in our cause fuels the impact we are able to make.

Thanks to your support, we surpassed our $100,000 fundraising goal, raising $180,000 in total — a milestone that will help us continue providing vital services and support to families across the province.

We can’t wait to come together again in 2027. Until then, please take a moment to watch the video we premiered at the gala — a tribute to the incredible families and individuals who remind us every day why this work matters. Thank you for sharing your stories, your hearts, and your hope with us.

With deepest gratitude,
The Centre Team

Happy Pride Month! At the Centre, we are committed to embracing, accepting and providing safe spaces for everyone regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation.

Did you know the month of June was chosen for 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Month to commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall riots? In June 1969, a series of riots for gay liberation took place lasting several days. Following the Stonewall riots, the first pride marches began across the United States to commemorate the riots and further push liberation. Today, many pride events are held around the world during this month to recognize and celebrate the impact 2SLGBTQIA+ people have had in the world, as well as their continued fight for equal access.
