Cornerstone Counselling

Cornerstone Counselling Our goal is to improve the mental health of our Edmonton communities by providing subsidized counsel

As counselling is an important health care service that all people should have access to, we offer subsidized fees based on gross household income. We can provide services to individuals, couples, families, groups, and organizations. Specifically, we provide professional psychological services aimed at promoting wholeness of life: counselling, psychotherapy, education, assessment, and training.

September 21 is World Gratitude Day! ✨

Let's be clear, gratitude is NOT about ignoring pain or pretending everything is fine. That's what we call toxic positivity, which dismisses real feelings and struggles.

Gratitude is about holding space for both, acknowledging challenges and recognizing the good, even if it's small. Take a moment to reflect: What is one thing, big or small, that you're grateful for?

This week, our counsellors were out and about sharing tools for mental health and wellbeing:

April Langille, Mental Health Therapist, joined ATCO to present on Work Burnout & Stress Management. Thank you to Shahnaz Kharadi and the ATCO team for welcoming us and engaging in such an important conversation.

Freda Doyle, Registered Psychologist with Cornerstone, presented on Healthy Relationships with the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society, supporting individuals and families with tools to strengthen connections.

We’re passionate about making mental health education accessible, relevant, and rooted in community partnerships. 💛

Our Executive Director, Sheila Stauffer, was recently interviewed by Global News about what mental health support really looks like for Albertans, especially for those who feel unsure where to turn, or worry about costs.

At Cornerstone Counselling, we believe everyone deserves access to support, no matter their background or situation.

Heading back to school can feel overwhelming for any child, especially those who struggle with anxiety, learning differences, or mental health challenges. Here are a few ways you can help ease the transition:

1️⃣ Get back to routine: Kids pick up on your energy. A steady routine with set mealtimes, homework, and bedtime can help.

2️⃣ Keep communication open: Teens need space to share what’s new, hard, or exciting. Listen daily.

3️⃣ Partner with teachers: They see your child in a whole new light and can be a great ally in spotting strengths and challenges.

4️⃣ Create homework habits: Set aside a consistent time and space for homework to build strong study skills.

5️⃣ Stay patient with growth: Kids develop at their own pace. A lag in one area doesn’t always signal an issue.
