Your muscles are generally more tender during a massage when you don't work out regularly, as inactive / weak muscles tend to be tighter and more prone to soreness when massaged compared to muscles that are regularly exercised.
Why is that you may ask?
✨️Muscle tension:
When you don't exercise, your muscles can become more tense and contracted, leading to greater sensitivity during a massage.
✨️Reduced blood flow:
Inactive muscles have less blood flow, which can make them feel more tight and sore during a massage.
✨️Muscle memory:
If you're used to regular exercise, your muscles are more accustomed to being worked, making them less tender during a massage.
If your thinking "But Apryl, I do weight training and its still tender when i get a massage"
Reasons why you could still be tender:
1. If it's a deep tissue massage, as the manipulation can cause micro-tears in the muscle fibers that need to heal.
2. Whether your muscles are well hydrated or not
3. DOMS from a previous workout
4. The general condition of your muscles and any medical conditions that could cause tenderness
