🌱 Shame is learned, not your fault. 🌱

It’s easy to get caught in the cycle of shame when it shows up, but remember—it’s not your natural state. Shame is something we pick up along the way, often from others, society, or past experiences. 💭

When you notice it, slow down. Take a breath. Don’t beat yourself up for feeling it. Instead, get curious. 🙏

Ask yourself:✨ What am I really feeling shame about?✨ Where did I learn this feeling from?

The more you can approach it with understanding and compassion, the less power it holds over you. 💪 You deserve freedom from the stories you didn’t choose. 🌸

When we talk about healing, we’re not just talking about the physical kind where you cut yourself, put a band-aid over it and wait for nature to run its course. However, that analogy can still be quite applicable in this case.

Emotional healing is the ability to acknowledge events and circumstances in our lives that may hinder us from moving forward. It’s a process that allows us to take control of our thoughts, feelings and emotions.

Emotional healing can stem from many circumstances, whether it’s coming out of a long-term relationship, the loss of a job, getting over sickness or losing a loved one (the list can go on). During and even after these events in our lives, we usually start to experience feelings of stress, anxiety, depression or even self-sabotaging behaviours, which can eventually overwhelm us.

We can help you process every step of the way. We invite you to reach out to us.

The way we view our bodies determines the way we participate in the world.

Society shapes us in many ways, even more than we realize. Put simply, overconcern about appearance can limit what opportunities a person seeks. Self-handicapping is a cognitive strategy in which people avoid an opportunity to protect their self-esteem against the possibility of failure.

Research on this subject shows that a strong enough limiting self-belief can restrict access and experiences throughout the lifespan. This is based on an assumption that may or may not be true. The undoing of a belief can be harder than building a new one, especially when we are exposed to so many media images and messages that are constantly reinforcing certain ideas.

We want to encourage you to think about the way we speak about bodies and how this might affect body image for ourselves and our communities. Body image is not static. Throughout life, we move along a continuum of how we perceive ourselves. Regardless of how we feel about it at any given moment, we can have a full and meaningful life in the bodies we have.

Family is documented as the MOST common source of stigmatizing comments and encounters.

From the seemingly "harmless" reminders to "get healthy" or "watch those portions" to the blatant & mean comments. You aren't alone. These comments are the most painful because they come from people we love and trust.

However, we also have an opportunity to grow from these experiences and unlearn the messages of toxic diet culture. To BREAK THE CYCLE of intergenerational trauma. To create a supportive environment built on body trust for the next generation.

To help appreciate bodies for what they can DO rather than what they LOOK like. To tune into the body's cues for hunger and fullness and cope with emotions using a variety of strategies. To choose movement and activity that brings joy.

In a world where we are constantly bombarded with how things "should" be, s*x is no different.

There is NOTHING more of a pleasure blocker than pressure and anxiety. We know it's hard to shift the way we think of s*x after decades of being taught one way, but we encourage you to challenge these stories.

S*x SHOULD be an experience that looks different for every one of us.

S*x SHOULD be PLEASURE-focused, NOT orgasm-focused.

Edmonton Therapist and Registered Psychologist

The science of psychology helps society and improves our lives. As psychologists, we look at the relationships between the brain and behaviour, as well as the environment and behaviour. We apply our knowledge of scientific principles to illuminate our collective understanding and to facilitate healing and growth.

It’s not easy to navigate through life. The obstacles in our lives may create fear and pain. Sometimes we hurt ourselves. Sometimes we hurt each other. How do we balance ourselves when we are trying to love others? How can we adjust to technology while maintaining our connections with others? How can we improve our relationships or end them without causing trauma?

When we act out of fear, we hurt ourselves and each other. When we act out of love, we’re able to find ourselves, love others and understand our choices. Our philosophy is based on science and a social movement founded on respect, integrity and the belief that we’re better human beings when we’re working together. We invite you to confront your fears, pain, and the confusion with ideas based on our scientific understanding of love, self-care, differentiation and neuroscience. We’re here for you. Are you ready to talk?
