Real Talk ✨

Even as a nutritionist and fitness professional, I’m human too. I don’t always have it all figured out—and lately, my body has been reminding me of that loud and clear.

I’m 38. “Too young for this,” as even my doctor finally admitted—after months of brushing off my symptoms.

But I knew something wasn’t right. Deep down, I could feel it. Still, I was dismissed over and over until I reached out to a women’s health clinic that actually listened. With the right testing at the right time, I finally got real answers.

Despite doing everything “right”—eating well, moving intentionally, managing stress—the truth is, my hormones were completely out of balance. It was emotional. Frustrating. Also validating.

And truthfully? I’ve been running on empty. I’m learning that my body needs me to slow down—something that doesn’t come easy for me. But it’s necessary. Pushing through was only making things worse.

The silver lining: I caught this before it spiraled into something more serious. Left unaddressed, these imbalances could have triggered a cascade of autoimmune issues. I’m so grateful I listened to that inner nudge to keep digging.

I’m sharing this because too many women are quietly struggling, second-guessing their instincts, and being brushed off. But we know our bodies. We know when something isn’t right.

Trust yourself. Keep asking questions. Keep pushing to be heard.

Restoring health isn’t linear, and it’s never instant—but with the right support, anything is possible.

Today’s the day! 💜🧸🏃🏽‍♀️

Team Nola’s Ninjas is hitting the pavement for the Teddy Bear 5km Fun Run in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital—a place that holds a very special place in our hearts.

Our daughter Nola is a proud Stollery kid, and we’re so grateful for the incredible care she’s received. That’s why we’re running today—to give back and help other families just like ours.

We’re currently in the Top 10 fundraising teams and only $879 away from reaching our goal!

Same body. Different phase. Both beautiful.✨

The first photo is me in my follicular phase—feeling light, energized, and more outward. 🌸
The second is during my menstral phase—bloated, slower, inward.🧘🏻‍♀️

Our bodies are constantly shifting throughout our cycles. Hormones fluctuate, energy changes, and our appearance can vary—and that’s completely normal. ✔️

I used to really struggle with that. I’d feel so good in one phase and then turn on myself when things felt harder—when I was bloated, tired, or just not as “on.” I thought something was wrong with me, or that I’d lost progress.

But learning about cycle syncing changed that. Instead of resisting the changes, I started working with them. I began to see my cycle not as a burden, but as a blueprint—a rhythm that gives me insight into when to push, when to rest, when to nourish, and when to let go.

Now, I know that my body isn’t failing me when I feel softer or slower. It’s speaking to me. And I’m finally listening.🙌🏼

Oh—and if you noticed the messy room in the background of both pics? Congrats, you’re officially human like me. We’re not here for perfection, we’re here for progress—inside and out.👊🏼

Your body is not “good” or “bad” based on how it looks or feels today—it’s wise, dynamic, and always doing its best for you.

Both phases deserve love. Both are powerful. Both are you.🫶🏼✨😍

This weekend, I celebrated 38 trips around the sun exactly where I feel most alive ✨— in the mountains, with my love by my side.🥰

We climbed Wasootch Ridge🏔️, pushing through tired legs, heavy breaths, and moments of doubt — and standing at the top, I felt it all: pride, gratitude, and resilience.😅

This year, like the climb, wasn’t always easy. There were steep parts, unexpected turns, and days that tested me. But like I remind my clients and riders all the time - every challenge shapes us into someone stronger, someone more grounded, someone still standing — and still reaching for more.👊🏼

There’s something powerful about earning the view with your own two feet.🥾
It’s a reminder that the hardest climbs often lead to the most breathtaking moments.✨🏔️

Here’s to another year of growth, grit, and gratitude. And to all the mountains — both real and metaphorical — still waiting for all of us. ✨🏔️

I almost scrolled right past this photo (on the right) when a family member shared it on Facebook as a memory.

I recognized my daughter instantly—how cute is she?!—but the woman beside her?
I didn’t even realize it was me. 🫣

So much has changed since that moment—not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. I honestly feel like an entirely different person.✨

I know what it feels like to be at war with your own body.
To feel uncomfortable in your skin.
To reach for food for comfort, distraction, or just out of habit.

For me, the turning point came when my ex-husband hid the Halloween candy from me.🍫🍬
Yes, really. (He’s obviously an ex for a reason—lol.)

That moment hit hard—and I knew something had to shift.

The change didn’t happen overnight.
I didn’t follow a perfect plan.
Even as a nutritionist, I still don’t eat perfectly.

But what I did do was stay consistent.
I built small habits. I stacked them over time.
Even with off days or off weeks, I kept coming back to the bigger picture. 👧🏼👦🏻

And little by little, I created a way of living that felt so foreign to the girl on the left—but is second nature to the woman on the right.✨

If you’re in the messy middle, don’t give up.
You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to keep showing up for yourself. 👊🏼

Hi, I’m Alona 👋 (pronounced A-lawn-a) — Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant, Group Fitness Coach, and founder of Flourish Wellness Co., based in Edmonton, AB. 🫶🏻

I help busy women balance their hormones, restore energy, support metabolism, and develop sustainable habits for long-term health — without the overwhelm.

But more than that, I’m also a mom of two, a former paramedic, and someone who’s lived the chaos of burnout, weight struggles, and hormonal imbalance firsthand. 💥

My wellness journey truly began when my daughter was born with complex medical needs. I had to become her biggest advocate — navigating a complicated system, asking hard questions, and seeking out holistic alternatives that would help her not just survive, but truly thrive.

She’s alive today thanks to modern medicine, but she’s thriving today because of the functional, food-first approach we embraced as a family.

🌿 Pause. Reflect. Nourish. 🌿

I’ll be the first to admit — slowing down doesn’t always come easy for me. 🫣

In a world that glorifies “hustle,” choosing to rest can feel uncomfortable… even rebellious.

But I’m learning (still!) that rest is not a reward — it’s a requirement.

For healing. For hormone balance. For joy.
It’s in the slowing down that we make space for reflection, nourishment, and renewal.

Today, I’m giving myself permission to soften…

A Healthy Easter Treat to Fuel Your Movement ✨🥕

With Easter around the corner, I wanted to share a nourishing twist on a classic treat—Carrot Cake Energy Bites! 🥕🐰💐

These little bites are packed with fiber, healthy fats, and natural sweetness, making them the perfect snack to fuel your workouts and support overall wellness.

Carrot Cake Energy Bites 🥕✨
A no-bake, nutrient-dense snack to keep you energized!

Ingredients:
1 cup shredded carrot (finely grated)
½ cup unsweetened shredded coconut
½ cup almond flour (or oat flour for nut-free)
½ cup Medjool dates (pitted and soaked if dry)
¼ cup walnuts or pecans (optional)
1 tbsp chia seeds (for fiber + omega-3s)
1 tbsp maple syrup or honey (optional, for extra sweetness)
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp vanilla extract
¼ tsp nutmeg
Pinch of sea salt

Instructions:
Add all ingredients to a food processor and blend until a sticky dough forms. If too dry, add 1–2 tsp water.
Roll into small bite-sized balls.
Optionally, roll in more shredded coconut for extra texture.
Refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up. I LOVE them right out of the freezer!
