It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Russell Ward Hodgins (63 years old) on October 23, 2024, in Edmonton, AB. Rob was born on December 14, 1960 in Toronto, ON and raised in London, ON. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario with his Bachelor of Science in Honours Biochemistry in 1982 and his Doctor of Philosophy in Plant Sciences in 1987. His dedication to lifelong learning and professional development was admirable. He enjoyed many professions over his lifetime, working as a postdoctoral fellow and researcher at the University of Alberta, as a self-employed technical writer and Registered Massage Therapist, and most recently, as an associate at Home Depot. His favourite hobbies were reading, archiving, and working on his computers. He was best known for his sense of humour, boisterous laugh, and community involvement.
Rob was predeceased by his father, Russell, and his mother, Sylvia. He is survived by his daughters Leslie (Shayne), Paula (Dwayne), and Terra (Alexander); his son, Michael (Jasmine); and his two grandsons, Mark and Leo. To respect Rob’s wishes, we will hold a private ceremony consisting of family only. May he rest in peace, with Reese’s and bacon galore.
