On-site or just passing through… your ears are still at risk 👷‍♂️🔊

If you’re working in construction, you’re equipped with the proper hearing protection as per safety regulations—but what about those just nearby or walking through?

Even short exposure to high decibel levels can cause damage over time.

For reference:
🔹 Normal conversation: ~60 dB
🔹 Power tools (drills, saws): 90–110 dB
🔹 Jackhammer: ~120 dB
🔹 Safe exposure limit: ~85 dB over 8 hours

That means even a few minutes around loud equipment can add up.

At Melody, we offer custom hearing protection for:
✔️ Work environments
✔️ Concerts & events
✔️ Everyday noise exposure
✔️ Sleep

Protect your hearing now—your future self will thank you.

🚨Did you know that at some Oilers games, noise levels can reach over 120 dB?

For context, safe daily exposure is around 60–70 dB—and anything above 85 dB over time can start to impact your hearing.

Whether it’s hockey games, concerts, or your day-to-day environment, those louder moments add up.

At Melody Audiology, we offer custom hearing protection (like these Oilers-inspired ones 💙🧡) designed for real life—from events and concerts, to heavy-duty work, to better sleep.

Personalize your own custom moulds with colours, fit, and function that works for you. Your future self will thank you!

How loud is too loud? 🔊

According to Canadian hearing safety standards, 85 dB is the limit for an 8-hour exposure before hearing damage becomes a concern.

But here’s the catch:
Every 3 dB increase cuts safe listening time in half.

85 dB → 8 hours
88 dB → 4 hours
91 dB → 2 hours
94 dB → 1 hour

🚨If you need to raise your voice to talk to someone beside you, the environment may already be loud enough to impact your hearing.

Protect your ears — hearing loss is permanent, but it’s also preventable. At Melody we offer personalized hearing protection for everybody! Give us a call to book an appointment or find out more on our website: melodyaudiology.com

Pt. 2: The Results Are In 🎧

Our client works in the oil field - an environment where machinery, drilling equipment, compressors, and heavy-duty vehicles can expose workers to high decibel levels for extended periods of time. Over time, that kind of noise exposure can absolutely impact hearing if proper protection isn’t used.

The good news?
His results looked great 🙌

Why? Because he’s been consistent and mindful about wearing hearing protection at work. Prevention matters and hearing checks are just as important as protecting your ears on the job.

If you work in a noisy environment (oil & gas, construction, trades, music, aviation & even frequent concerts), it’s a good idea to establish a baseline and monitor your hearing over time.

Part 1: What to Expect at Your Hearing Test👂

Ever wondered what actually happens during a hearing assessment? At Melody, your full appointment typically takes about 30-40 minutes from start to finish — including a detailed history, testing, and reviewing your results the same day.

You’ll leave knowing exactly what’s going on with your hearing and what your next steps are (if any). No pressure. Just clarity.

Some of the reasons to get tested?
• If you notice ringing, muffled sound, or asking people to repeat themselves
• If you work in noisy environments
• Or simply for a baseline, like you would your eyes

Early testing = early awareness.

Stay tuned for Part 2 👀
