FireSeed Facilitation

FireSeed Facilitation Coaching, workshops, and consulting for accessing feelings, values, and transformative futures We are Daley Laing and Ingrid Tischer. And then Daley met Ingrid.

We offer affordable anti-oppression informed supports for individuals, groups and organizations, and other practitioners. Our practice includes coaching conversations, consulting, and workshops focused on systems impacting trans and gender diverse, queer, and disabled people. FireSeed centres the power of who we become as we survive personal and structural violence, and systemic ableism. It asks "

what blooms after the fire" with the intention of supporting agency and autonomy to define what those fires mean to us and how we want to engage, heal, and transform them. Because affordability is an access issue, we offer coaching time on a sliding scale of $25-$125/session, with no one turned away due to lack of funds. FireSeed first started as a solo project, emerging out of Daley's continual call to centre feelings to help people flourish in the realm of social justice and liberation-oriented community organizing. And for many years, Daley did this sometimes lonely work of supporting individuals and organizations to align with the transformational futures they desired. Ingrid's coaching specializes in coping with ableism, internalized and otherwise, plus supporting people working to align their organization’s values and practices, all folks who want to connect with their authentic ambition and disconnect with their imposter syndrome. Ingrid also works with organizations on creating a culture of access and improving work-disability balance. We work independently and Daley, as the more experienced coach, informally oversees Ingrid's practice. We meet weekly to discuss any questions, concerns and joys. We engage in conversations about what it means to practice ethically, and are committed to supporting each other to work in alignment with liberation and transformation. What we share:

🫧 We value silliness, whimsy, and general merriment because lightness and joy are as much a part of who we are as coaches as curiosity, compassion, and accountability.

🫧 We enjoy hanging out with each other in the Deep Thoughts Lounge in beautiful downtown Zoom.

🫧 We believe in the healing properties of the ancient practice of Snackundnapz.

🫧 In case you're wondering, our answer is "Star Trek" because it's a big YES to your question, "Permission to speak freely?"

Dr. DoLess here! (aka Ingrid Tischer)

Check out our community's New Years Resolution ideas in Amanda Morris's terrific Washington Post article from Emily Ladau, Dawn Gibson -- and me! (And many other insightful advocates.)

Amanda's great questions made me realize that my crip-joy is so much about reclaiming access to failing and quitting and risk. And feeling like all of that's OK. Because the idea that I'm too frail to fail is ableism.

But really truly believing that is not so easy because failing and quitting etc. are still privileges for many many people who don't have a safety net to protect them when they want/need to take a risk.

So to protect my tender bits from all that chronic exposure to ableism, I'm going to apply high SPF (Silly Pointless Fun) daily to my life in 2023.😜

Many disabled people say their experience of coming to terms with their disability fundamentally shifted the way they approached goal-setting.

🎃 Happy Halloween to all The Great Pumpkins out there who are feeling imposter syndrome for all kinds of reasons. It's a heckuva trick the dominant culture plays on us about how much we're supposed to be able to do.

🎭 The good (?) news: You're not the only one feeling like you're about to be found out behind your "I Am TOTALLY Keeping Up With Everything" mask.

So maybe try making tomorrow Bring Your Sustainable Limits To Work Day. Your treats will include not feeling responsible for fixing our whole culture!

Let us honour our rage and make space for those whose rage needs more space and love

“I am only able to sleep
dreaming of volcanoes
which peel away the surface and explode and melt down what is
which decimate and steal and swallow and change
which become glass and then green island
which become breeze and beach and whale watching
and song and fruit and dance
and children and children and children
when I feel it inside me
this raging molten flow of the truth
I can only rest remembering
life comes from the eruptions
and nothing you’ve made will last“

Help support accessible supports for feelings and flourishing!

FireSeed Facilitation is some of the most meaningful, political and transformative work I have ever done.

Right now, I have more asks for support than I have time to give. This is in a large part to the fact I need to work another job in order to financially survive. I would love to be able to spend more time doing FireSeed but don't want to shift the financial burden onto the individual people I have conversations with.

That's where you come in! If you are financially able, please consider signing up to make a monthly donation through Patreon. No matter if you can donate or not please share this with others post with others.

Lorraine is a huge influence on how I think, feel, support around death and dying. This is a wonderful interview with her.

content note: stories of death, loss, mention of abusive relationships

In episode #068 Chris meets with Dr. Lorraine Hedtke and they discuss how grief is frequently thought of as an ordeal we must simply survive. In this episode Dr. Hedtke offers a fresh approach to the negotiation of death and grief, founded in principles of constructive conversation and narrative pra...

I always feel uncomfortable when people start spouting out their degrees and accreditations. Especially when these letters are used to prove someone's ability to provide meaningful and valuable care and support.

We need to be suspicious of institutions' growing monopoly on "legitimate" knowledge and recognized learning; Institutions that have long and ongoing histories of pathologizing and actively harming marginalized people. We need to ask what harmful systems are maintained and expanded by the professsionalization of care. And who is actively excluded from being recognized as valuable and legitimate practitioners because they refuse (or are excluded by) professsionalization.

Everyone I work with can do this work without me. I believe in their power, knowledge and skills. My role is to make the work easier, safer, more enjoyable, more accessible and less lonely. That's why I call my work facilitation.

So much gratitude to Mia Mingus for these words.

"We can start with our self-accountability and the ways that we don’t show up for ourselves. We can acknowledge how most of us are in an abusive relationship with ourselves. We blow past our own boundaries, we punish and beat ourselves up in terrible ways. We can start with the ways we treat and talk to ourselves—ways that we would clearly recognize as abuse if it were being done to another person. After all, our abusive relationship with ourselves lays the groundwork for an abusive world."

What if accountability wasn’t scary? Take a breath and let that sink in for a second. What if accountability wasn’t scary? It will never be easy or comfortable, but what if it wasn’t scary? …

Survival often means we shut down parts of ourselves. Vulnerable parts. Angry parts. Parts we're told are bad, unworthy, unlovable. Sometimes we do this in order to keep them safe. Some times we do this out of shame and self-judgement. Sometimes both.
New struggles are emerging on the horizon for me. I can feel fear and self-judgement creep in, demanding I become less. And, I am commiting to bringing all of my parts with me. My sweet parts, my sad parts, my angry parts, my precocious parts. We are going to do this together.
