Happy New Year! For this years resolution lets focus on healthy vision; use these tips to take care of your eyes!
1. Eat right to protect your sight, by eating a well-balanced diet.
2. Have regular dilated eye exams with your optometrist and speak up if your vision changes.
3. Wear your glasses, they help you see better (or call Eye Q for your free surgical consultation)!
4. Give your eyes a rest with the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look about 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Staring at your computer, phone, or TV screen for too long can tire your eyes.
5. Get moving. Exercise reduces risk for diabetes and other conditions that can lead to vision problems.
6. Keep the germs away. Always wash your hands before putting them close to your eyes, especially if you’re using contact lenses.
7. Wear your shades. Choose sunglasses that block 99% or 100% of both UVA and UVB radiation.
8. Gear up. Wear the right protective eye wear to keep your eyes safe and prevent injury.
9. Say no to smoking. Smoking can put you at risk for serious eye issues.
10. Talk about it. Know your family history; by discussing eye health with your family it can help you all stay healthy.

Tips for Eye Safety this Halloween
1. Don’t use decorative contacts that were not prescribed by your optometrist - Buying any kind of contact lens without an examination can lead to serious eye disorders, infections, and even permanent vision loss.
2. Avoid costumes that block vision - Masks, wigs and eye patches can help polish off a Halloween costume, but make sure they don’t obstruct your field of vision.
3. Use makeup and face paint properly - If you decide to use makeup instead of a mask, opt for a hypoallergenic option or keep the makeup away from the eyes. Bring a washcloth in case makeup begins to run while out.
4. Don’t use sharp objects as props - When choosing accessories, make sure they are age appropriate and don’t pose any harm.
5. Carry a flashlight - Use a small flashlight to illuminate dark paths and walkways so you are able to see potential hazards like uneven pavement or holes, which are tripping hazards. It is also a good idea to keep porch and stairways clear and illuminated.
We hope these tips keep you safe during your Halloween adventures!

Tips for Eye Safety this Halloween
1. Don’t use decorative contacts that were not prescribed by doctors - Buying any kind of contact lens without an examination and prescription from an eye care professional can be extremely dangerous. It can lead to serious eye disorders and infections, which can even lead to permanent vision loss. It is also against federal law to sell contact lenses in an unlicensed outlet, such as a costume shop, party store and beauty supply stores. They may be made from inferior plastics or contain toxic dyes.
2. Avoid costumes that block vision - Masks, wigs and eye patches can help polish off a Halloween costume, but make sure they don’t obstruct your field of vision.
3. Use makeup and face paint properly - If you decide to use makeup instead of a mask, opt for a hypoallergenic option and keep the makeup away from the eyes. Bring a washcloth in case makeup begins to run while out.
4. Don’t use sharp objects as props - When choosing accessories, make sure they are age appropriate and don’t pose any harm. It is best to avoid sharp, pointed props, all together.
