The board has three venues that are focused on enriching the varsity experience during the school year. They include:
1) Creating the varsity community
2) Expanding the role of athletes beyond the confines of the university
3) Advocacy and representation of student athletes. The UAB is composed of one athlete representative from each varsity team and ten executive members who provide direction for the board. Our mission is to improve the varsity experience, give back to the community, and represent athletes to campus population at large. Simply put UAB is athletes supporting athletes. The UAB programs all of the varsity events during the year. This includes Panda Bear Fests & the Green and Gold awards night. The community outreach portion of our organization is dedicated to expanding our charitable focus both in and outside of the confines of the university. This includes blood drives, recreational sport tournaments, and Dodgefest. We help provide volunteer experience for athletes through programming with Habitat for Humanity, Tobacco-Free Kids, NSTEP & the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Lastly, the UAB exists as a forum for student-athletes to express any quality concerns they have about the varsity experience and ways of improving it. If you have any events you think would strengthen the varsity community you can bring them to your athlete representative or attend the next UAB meeting in person or email uaboard@ualberta.ca.
