If could have a conversation with the girl I used to be, I would take the time to talk to her for hours, because I know she never had that. I would speak to her much kinder than she speaks to herself, tell her all the things she tells herself aren’t true, that her fears are real and valid, but don’t define her.
I would tell her to take more chances, step out of that comfort zone, because one day it will become a prison.
I would let her know that she matters, she has a place in this world, that her dreams are worth chasing, and it’s okay to put herself first.
I would tell her she can’t save everyone but she can save herself, that it’s not too late, it’s never too late. I would make sure she knows not to confuse her fears with her intuition, that most of her fears are rooted in stepping out of her comfort zone and that’s what holds her back from so much.
I would tell her when she comes to that one path she’s scared to take, take it, take it with both hands, your whole heart, just take it. Take all the chances, do all the things that scare you, and if you ever think you’re losing your voice, raise it, if you ever feel like you’re losing yourself, don’t stop until you find her again.
I would tell her, if you ever find yourself at a crossroads of staying or leaving, pick the one that scares you the most right now, and don’t look back.
To the girl I used to be: you are worth all of your dreams, but no one else can chase those for you.
You deserve the life you think about; don’t ever settle for less.
All the time you spend existing, doesn’t come back to you. Go Live. You are not meant to be caged. You are wild, beautiful, and free to do whatever you want.
Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Don’t just write the story you want, live it, babe, become it.
You are going to make it out of there one day, be patient with yourself, give yourself a little grace.
We make it in the end. We make it.

Please don't diet. Choose healthy balance. Choose to seek deeper into the emotional part of our relationship with food. You are enough. xo

I used to post things about being the 5% that would defy the odds. That dieting, for a lifetime, would work for me. Because *I* had that kind of willpower and strength.

The reality was I had that kind of hate for myself - and it was fuelling me.
If I was never enough then I would always be striving for “better”.
Not better for me, but better for appearances.

Hate is a powerful thing.

Typically, a diet lasts most folks about 6 days. With many starting as a New Years resolution.
Let me state very clearly right now I am not in any way judging a decision any one makes for their own body. Heck, the average person will try 126 fad diets in their lifetime. Repackaged and resold to us, over and over again. Odds are, we’re going to diet and the last thing any of us needs is more shame. Compassion, understanding and a keeping on, is my hope.

So perhaps today is day 7, and like I have before so many times, feeling that feeling of weakness and failure.

But can we for a moment see how absolutely courageous and amazing it is to LOVE in the face of our own powerful hate?
How can that be failure? How can that be weakness?
To LOVE, is strength.
And it may not come by feeling. It may be just you gently showing up for yourself today. Nourishing. Moving. Feeling. Continuing.

Hate is a powerful thing.
But to LOVE in the face of it…
Well that’s just a whole other kind of powerful.

So much so - it causes SUCCESS 95% of the time.

And I hope we all feel that in our bones today.

The real Miss Marley Rae turned 17 yesterday..... where has the time gone? This book came out when she was 5 years old. It was written for her - about her - in my deepest wishes that she always stay true to that confidant and free little girl she was. She is everything in the book and more. Loving and owning who she is. Such a honour to witness.
You are Sooooo Beautiful 💜

"How to talk to your daughter about her body, step one: Don't talk to your daughter about her body, except to teach her how it works.

Don't say anything if she's lost weight. Don't say anything if she's gained weight.

If you think your daughter's body looks amazing, don't say that. Here are some things you can say instead:

"You look so healthy!" is a great one.

Or how about, "You're looking so strong."

"I can see how happy you are -- you're glowing."

Better yet, compliment her on something that has nothing to do with her body.

Don't comment on other women's bodies either. Nope. Not a single comment, not a nice one or a mean one.

Teach her about kindness towards others, but also kindness towards yourself.

Don't you dare talk about how much you hate your body in front of your daughter, or talk about your new diet. In fact, don't go on a diet in front of your daughter. Buy healthy food. Cook healthy meals. But don't say, "I'm not eating carbs right now." Your daughter should never think that carbs are evil, because shame over what you eat only leads to shame about yourself.

Encourage your daughter to run because it makes her feel less stressed. Encourage your daughter to climb mountains because there is nowhere better to explore your spirituality than the peak of the universe. Encourage your daughter to surf, or rock climb, or mountain bike because it scares her and that's a good thing sometimes.

Help your daughter love soccer or rowing or hockey because sports make her a better leader and a more confident woman. Explain that no matter how old you get, you'll never stop needing good teamwork. Never make her play a sport she isn't absolutely in love with.

Prove to your daughter that women don't need men to move their furniture.

Teach your daughter how to cook kale.

Teach your daughter how to bake chocolate cake made with six sticks of butter.

Pass on your own mom's recipe for Christmas morning coffee cake. Pass on your love of being outside.

Maybe you and your daughter both have thick thighs or wide ribcages. It's easy to hate these non-size zero body parts. Don't. Tell your daughter that with her legs she can run a marathon if she wants to, and her ribcage is nothing but a carrying case for strong lungs. She can scream and she can sing and she can lift up the world, if she wants.

Remind your daughter that the best thing she can do with her body is to use it to mobilize her beautiful soul."

A Mighty Girl Pick of the Day: “Strong Is The New Pretty: A Celebration of Girls Being Themselves” by Kate T. Parker. When Parker first started her “Strong Is The New Pretty” photo series, she wanted to show her young daughters "their boldness, their strength and the beauty in them, as they are." Over the past two years, she expanded her series to include hundreds of diverse girls and has now collected 175 of these powerful photos in a new book. To Parker, real beauty is about being your authentic self, and her incredible collection celebrates the strength, confidence, and energy of girls being 100% themselves.

Girls being fearless. Girls being silly. Girls being kind. Girls being wild, stubborn, and proud. Athletic girls. Artsy girls. These candid photos show girls from ages 5 to 18 in all of their wondrous diversity. Each full-page picture is accompanied with a short quote from the featured girl reflecting on her own strengths. From 10-year-old Yolisa who observes, "The best part is that I always enjoy what I create," to 6-year-old Dillan who asserts, "I can do lots of things people think I'm not strong enough to do," readers will be moved and inspired by the wisdom and heart of the girls and their stories. Perfect for Mighty Girls of all ages and their parents, teachers, coaches, and mentors, this stunning new book is a beautiful celebration of the power of girls.

Some great insight

No matter how much she accomplishes in life, no matter how much love she gives, she keeps pushing herself further. She wants to do more. To be more. Because she knows she’s capable of more.
