Vitae Fertility Education At Vitae Fertility, we teach the Marquette Method. It's easy to learn, highly effective, and taught by RNs.

The Marquette Method is a type of Natural Family Planning which uses Clearblue Fertility Monitors to precisely track your LH and estrogen levels. Vitae Fertility Education is run by a Registered Nurse trained as an instructor of the Marquette Method of Natural Family Planning. By tracking the hormone levels in a woman's body throughout her menstrual cycle the woman is able to identify the time in her cycle in which she is fertile. She can use this information to achieve or avoid pregnancy or to track hormone imbalances she may be experiencing. The Marquette Method boasts the highest efficacy rates of the mainstream NFP methods, outranking Billings, Creighton, and Symptothermal! In regular cycles it is 99% effective at avoiding pregnancy when used with an instructor, and when used during the breastfeeding/postpartum phase it is 98% effective. The Marquette Method utilizes urinary hormone levels and can detect the fertile window more accurately than most other methods. A more accurate detection of the fertile window means less days of abstinence per cycle! In-person courses are available at this time, and online courses will be available in the next few months. Individual and group sessions are offered, with discounted rates for group sessions (5 couples or more).

🙏 Our Lady of La Leche, pray for us!

After the conference a few of us headed to St. Augustine, FL to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche.

Many of our Marquette clients are breastfeeding mommas, and so I took some time to offer a prayer for all of our nursing moms - the moms with new babies, struggling to get a good latch, the moms who are up in the middle of night nursing! 🤱

I had the pleasure of co-hosting the Marquette Research Summit again this past year with Sara Flood (NFPCoach- Marquette Method)!

I learned so much about what the latest research has to say about fertility, Marquette, perimenopause, and so much more.

Plus so many great visits were had… and not many pictures were taken! My heart is full.

Some of my favourite parts:

💚 Connecting as Vitae Instructors - we really do have such a special group of instructors at Vitae. They’re the type who.. If you lived close to them, you’d definitely want to swing by for coffee. Being able to see them in person was such a blessing!

💚 Connecting with the larger community of Marquette instructors - it was so humbling to look around the conference room and see a room full of people dedicated to teaching NFP, dedicated to the teachings of the Church, and dedicated to furthering the research in NFP to make things simpler for our users!

💚 Watching God move in our community - we hosted this conference in the middle of the government shut down, we had endless tech issues, and it literally froze in Florida…. 32 degrees! Yet, we saw God’s hand moving, taking care of the details for us so that we could still have a successful conference.

💚 Learning about the new research that’s unfolding - there’s lots going on in the Marquette research world - some really exciting studies that’ll be published in the next year or so, and we got to hear all about them!

💚 Learning more about the moral and ethical issues related to NFP - we had Dr. Perry Cahall, PhD attend our conference to speak to the ethical issues that arise in NFP, both in the spectrum of women’s health, and also in the day-to-day NFP user’s life.

📖 Story time! This one is about navigating NFP and Marquette while on a family vacation.

Think of it as a cautionary tale of what can happen if you don’t do a little advance planning for your testing routine while you’re away from home.

🗓 Day 1: I woke up early with my three kids, little at the time, after a short night of sleep. They were hungry and whiny, but I got them to the main level of the house and asked them to sit quietly outside the bathroom while I tested and the other 13 family members slept. I didn’t want to leave my fertility gear lying around, so I stayed in the bathroom while the Clearblue monitor ran its test. A LONG 5 minutes. By the time I got my results, my kids were yelling and had woken up half the house. Lovely.

🗓 Day 2: I tried something different and brought my kids into the bathroom with me. Surely they’d be quieter this way, right? Umm… no. How could they sit quietly when all this interesting stuff was happening? They watched while I p*ed in a cup and dipped my plastic “toy” into it. Cue the questions: why do you get to p*e in a cup when I have to use the toilet? Why is p*e yellow? Can I have a candy too? (Anything wrapped in purple plastic must be candy, right?) Another long 5 minutes of testing… and a full-blown tantrum when the “apple juice” on the counter wasn’t for drinking. I walked out humbled—and avoided the awkward looks from the other adults.

🗓 Day 3: I swallowed my pride and asked my dad to watch my kids while I tested. After the “apple juice” incident, everyone knew what I was up to anyway—so at least I finally got some peace. Did the monitor catch my expected peak? Nope! (I did catch peak that cycle… a week later than usual, and in the comfort of my own home.)

All this to say, I learned some valuable lessons, and I’d love to share them with you.

You probably didn’t know me back then…. But this is what my life looked like when I started teaching Marquette!

We had a 3 ½ year old, an almost 2 year old, and a newborn baby.

The year prior, we lost a baby at 18 weeks.
Things were messy in the Boychuk house, and we felt like we were running on fumes.

I started doing the Marquette Method instructor training out of desperation - we were looking for an NFP method that would work for us. I figured that the simplest solution would be to do the instructor training, and to learn everything that I could about Marquette.

Fast forward 9 years, and here we are!

We’ve still got three kids, they’re all just a bit older now.

We’re sleeping through the night, we’re reading books together, and delighting in this season of parenting.

It’s not perfect, but life never is.

If your chart starts to look a little odd, take the safe route.

Flying across time zones while using Marquette? No worries!

You can simply test within your 6 hour testing window keeping with your home time zone. If you’re a visual person, using a tool like World Time Buddy (google it!) may be really helpful in seeing your testing window at your destination.

⚠ Another VERY important tip to keep in mind if you’re flying over the holidays…make sure to pack your monitor in your carry-on. Do not check it with your luggage!

We have heard first-hand how it will mess with your monitor and the last thing you want to stress out about while traveling is a malfunctioning monitor!

No matter where you go, make sure to pack:

If effectiveness is important to you, talk to a certified human.
