Feeling disconnected from your spouse/partner? Longing to be close but are concerned your reach out will be rejected? Are you in gridlock going around and around the same old issues never finding resolution? Many couples delay seeking therapy, often waiting an average of six years before addressing serious relationship issues. This prolonged wait can exacerbate conflicts and make resolution more challenging, highlighting the importance of timely intervention for healthier partnerships. There are many approaches to couples therapy, what's most important is that you both feel safe and heard by the therapist, regardless of the modality. Reach out if you'd like to book a free couples therapy consultation.

đ Happy National Skating Day! I have many happy memories of skating in the evenings after supper with my friends. Frozen toes, frozen nose, warm hot chocolate, and lots of fun! Just like skating, life can have its ups and downs and times when we feel like we fall and smash our heads on the ice...ouch! As we start the new year, I wonder if we can all try to remember to embrace the journey, however it is, seek to find or maintain balance, and when things get rough, or we just need a laugh, reach out to our support system. I hope that you are able to glide through the challenges life brings you this year and that you're also able to stop and reflect on the glimmers along the journey.⨠Please reach out if you'd like to improve your capacity to recover from the hard times or to recognize the glimmers.

Got the post-Christmas blues? Gratitude has been correlated with happiness in numerous studies. Try reflecting on what you are grateful for by creating a list of 10 people, places, or things. Why write it out?
Thatâs why journaling, expressive writing, and even jotting down bullet points can often lead to insights that donât show up when we're thinking alone.
I'll get you started with my Gratitude List:
1. Time with my dad over the holidays.
2. Time with my husband, kids, and grandkids.
3. Friendships and the belly-laughs we have together.
4. My faith that grounds me and gives me purpose.
5. My goofy doodles that bring "little me" joy everyday.
6. Naps.
7. Dark roast coffee.
8. My new novel.
9. Listening to Christmas music during the holidays.
10. My private practice.

Holiday season = lots of gatherings, lots of treats, and sometimes, more drinks than you planned.
If youâre thinking about your relationship with alcohol this month, choosing a weekly target can be a simple way to stay grounded. Even picking a number is a win.
A few gentle helpers for the season:
⢠Sip slowly.
⢠Add water often.
⢠Mix in alcohol-free options.
⢠Eat before and while you drink.
⢠Try out alcohol-free days or activities.
Did you know that alcohol was classified as a Group 1 carcinogen (cancer-causing) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a part of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1988? Yet this information is little known to most of us.
The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction created Canada's Guidance on Alcohol and Health which outlines risk factor by drinks per week.
Whatever target you choose, make it one that supports your body, your mood, and your holidays. And always remember to approach your changes with self-compassion and curiousity.

Today is National Underdog Day!
Humans love underdog stories because they tap into something deep in us: empathy, hope, and the belief that effort can actually matter.
Underdogs reflect our own internal battles, restore our sense of fairness when life feels unfair, and give our brains a rewarding jolt when the unexpected hero wins.
Below are two lists of movies that celebrate the underdog, just in case you're sick of holiday romance, the Grinch, and White Christmas:
For Adults and Youth (parents please check ratings and use your discretion)
1. Rocky - The blueprint for the underdog sports story.
2. Rudy - Heart, grit, and the tiniest football player with the biggest determination.
3. The Pursuit of Happyness - A raw, real underdog story of persistence through overwhelming odds.
4. Hidden Figures - Brilliant women defying both racism and s*xism to change history.
5. Billy Elliot - A boy who wants to dance in a world that tells him he shouldnât.
6. The Blind Side - A young man rises from instability to football stardom with support and belief.
7. Erin Brockovich - One woman vs. a massive corporation, and she doesnât blink.
8. Remember the Titans - A team battles racial tension and the expectations stacked against them.
9. Slumdog Millionaire - A kid from the slums flips the script on every assumption about him.
10. Eddie the Eagle - A delightfully awkward, determined ski jumper who refuses to quit.
For the Kiddos! (Parents please check ratings and use your discretion)
11. Finding Nemo - A tiny clownfish with a big journey and bigger courage.
12. Kung Fu Panda -The least likely hero becomes the Dragon Warrior.
13. Ratatouille - A rat with chef dreams in a world that tells him âabsolutely not.â
14. Zootopia - A small, underestimated bunny becomes a police officer and cracks a major case.
15. The Little Engine That Could - Classic "I think I can" underdog energy.
16. A Bugâs Life - Misfit bugs take on the bullies using creativity and teamwork.
17. Moana - A young girl from a small island takes on a quest far beyond what anyone expects of her.
18.The Iron Giant - A boy befriends a misunderstood giant robot and stands up for whatâs right.
19. Paddington (1 & 2) - A small polite bear overcoming big challenges with kindness and curiosity.
20. Mulan - A young woman defies expectations, disguises herself as a soldier, and becomes the hero no one expected. (A personal favourite)

Happy National Chocolate-Covered Anything Day! đŤ
Finally, a holiday that truly understands us:
âLife feels unmanageable? Just⌠dip it in chocolate.â
If you could cover anything in chocolate today, what would it be?
Iâm personally considering: my inbox, the holiday to-do list, and the mysterious pile of papers I keep moving from one surface to another like it's a traveling art installation.
May your day be lightly drizzled with sanity and heavily coated in chocolate.
