We humbly recognize that Jewish Family Services operates on Treaty 6 territory, land that was once known as the Beaver Hills. This land has always been the traditional meeting ground, gathering place, and travelling
route of the Nehiyaw (Cree), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux), Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Métis, Denesuliné (Dene), and
Nakota Sioux (Stoney). We honour their elders, both past and present, and reflect on the ongoing impacts of displacement, dispossession, violence, and colonization—legacies that persist to this day.
Acknowledging this truth aligns with the foundation of our work, which is rooted in the Jewish principle of Tikun Olam, meaning "to heal the world." Recognizing the history and realities of the land we operate on is a vital step toward healing and fostering justice, reconciliation, and care for all communities we serve.
