When people gather with intention, healing takes root.

Over five weeks, we will gently untangle old beliefs, plant new seeds of truth, and reconnect with the worth that has always lived within us. Through guided exercises, affirmations, visualization, journaling, and meaningful conversation, we create space for what no longer serves us to fall away — and for new growth to rise.

Onaabani Giizis meaning Crusted Snow Moon refers to the specific weather pattern of early spring where the sun warms the top layer of snow during the day, which then refreezes into a hard, icy “crust” at night.

Historically, this was a vital time for travel. The hard crust on the snow made it easier for people to walk, hunt, and travel long distances using snowshoes without sinking.

March represents a time of reawakening. It is the threshold between the “white season” of winter and the “green season” of spring. Traditionally during this moon, the focus is on transformation and renewal, encouraging people to “sound out their voices” as the world begins to wake from its winter slumber.

Makwa Giizis meaning Bear Moon. This is the time when Mother bears typically give birth to their cubs, representing a period of vision quests, introspection, and communication through energy rather than words.

Namebini-Giizis meaning Suckerfish Moon. Namebini-Giizis, the suckerfish, was historically a vital food source during the late-winter period when other game was scarce. It is taught that the suckerfish “gave its life” to save the Anishinaabe from starvation.

February is known as a month of endurance and quiet strength. In traditional teachings, it is the second moon of the year, carrying lessons about seeing beyond the ordinary and preparing for the coming spring.

Gichi-Manidoo-Giizis meaning Great Spirit Moon; is a time for ‘Silence and Reflection’.

It is the coldest month, where snow blankets the ground and muffles sound. This silence is seen as a gift from the Creator, encouraging people to reflect on their place in Creation.

During the month of the Great Spirit we can focus inward and on the importance of self reflection and storytelling.
Historically, it was the hardest time to find food due to the scarcity of game, leading into February when the “Sucker Moon” brought relief.
