A healthy diet is so important for your vision care! What you eat plays a big role in keeping your eyes healthy long term. Nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E can help protect against age-related vision conditions. Loading up on leafy greens, fish, eggs, and colourful fruits and vegetables is one of the easiest things you can do to support your eye health. Your Alberta Doctor of Optometry can help you understand how nutrition and lifestyle choices impact your vision at your next eye exam.

Did you know Doctors of Optometry do more than just prescribing glasses? 👓

👁️ Doctors of Optometry are trained to diagnose, manage, and treat a wide range of eye conditions, from dry eye and infections to long term conditions like glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Comprehensive eye exams can also detect signs of systemic health conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure. Eye care is about more than vision correction — it’s about protecting long-term health.⚕️

At what age should your child have their first eye exam? 👶
Most parents don’t realize how early it should happen.

Here’s what’s recommended:

📌 6-9 months: A baby’s first eye exam to check for healthy development.
📌 2-5 years: A pre-school exam to catch any early vision issues before they start learning.
📌 Before Kindergarten: A comprehensive exam to make sure they’re set up for success in the classroom.
📌 Every year after: Annual exams to monitor changes as they grow.

Kids don’t always know how to tell you something is wrong with their vision. Regular eye exams catch what they can’t.

Book your child’s next eye exam with an Alberta Doctor of Optometry today.

What your eye colour says about your eye health 👁️

Your eye colour isn’t just about looks. It can actually play a role in your overall eye health.

🔵 Light eyes (blue, green, grey): More sensitive to UV light and may be at higher risk for conditions like macular degeneration. Sunglasses are a must.

🟤 Dark eyes (brown, hazel): Naturally more protected from UV exposure, but may be at higher risk for developing cataracts.

No matter your eye colour, regular eye exams and UV protection are key to keeping your eyes healthy for the long run.

Ask your Alberta Doctor of Optometry what your eye colour means for your vision. Book your next exam today.
