What actually is mindfulness and why does it help? Mindfulness is staying present in what you are doing in the moment. Often feelings of anxiety, stress, and overwhelm can be exacerbated by being caught in thoughts or worries about the past and future. By taking a breath and noticing what we are doing in this exact moment, we can help reduce unhelpful thoughts.

RAIN🌧 which was originally developed by Michelle McDonald, later expanded into a self-compassion practice by Tara Brach.

What it's used for:
RAIN is used for working with emotional distress, especially when you’re:
-Caught in self-criticism or shame
-Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, angry, or hurt
-Emotionally reactive in relationships
-Stuck in a loop of rumination
-Noticing old patterns or wounds getting triggered
It’s especially helpful in the moment—right when something hard is happening—or afterward to process it.

RAIN helps you:
-Turn toward difficult emotions instead of avoiding them
-Break automatic reactions
-Cultivate self-compassion and emotional regulation
-Create space between you and the experience

Gentle Reminder that January is a month when we often focus on being or doing better. We often forget about feeling better.

For the next 2 weeks we will be doing a series on self compassion. ❤

Self-compassion is simply the process of turning compassion inward. We’re kind and understanding rather than harshly self-critical when we fail, make mistakes, or feel inadequate. We give ourselves support and encouragement rather than being cold or judgmental when challenges and difficulties arise in our lives. Research indicates that self-compassion is one of the most powerful sources of coping and resilience we have available, radically improving our mental and physical wellbeing. It motivates us to make changes and reach our goals not because we’re inadequate, but because we care and want to be happy. --Kristin Neff
