Call For Nominations, and a Notice of our Annual General Meeting and Board Election that is held at the Trauma Symposium.

Have you thought of volunteering some of your time to be part of a dynamic trauma nursing association? ACTN may be just the right fit for you. There are many positions up for election this spring. From personal experience, being on this Association’s Board has been a valuable time for networking, professional development, friendships and creation of great ideas for nurses. We would love to see new additions to our team! There are duties and responsibilities, however, the time commitment is reasonable.

Meetings:

We hold meetings mostly virtually via Teams or Zoom, and occasionally in person. Meetings are approximately once a month for 1 –1 ½ hours.

Typically, there are no meetings over the summer and business slowly resumes in the fall. The frequency of meetings also typically picks up as we move closer to the date of the Annual Symposium to allow us to successfully organize the event.

This is a brief summary of what it would look like to be part of the board.

Positions open for nominations are:

1. President (2 years, term expires May/June 2027)

2. Vice President (1 year, term expires May/June 2026)

3. Treasurer (2 year, term expires May/June 2027)

4. Directors-At-Large (1 year and 2-year terms, term expires May/June 2026 or 2027)

Further nominations may be accepted from the floor at the Annual General Meeting.

Nominees must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Canada.

💉 We wanna talk to you about TXA! 🩸

💉 Tranexamic acid is a hemostatic agent, antifibrinolytic, plasminogen activator.

🩸 TXA Inhibits activation of plasminogen, thereby preventing the conversion of plasminogen to plasmin.

💉 TXA has been shown to reduce the rate of bleeding and improve survival rates in acute hemorrhage (in the settings of trauma and postpartum hemorrhage)

🩸 TXA does not reduce death from gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding and should not be used to treat upper or lower GI bleeding

⏰ every 15-minute delay in time to administration of TXA decreases survival benefit by 10%.

Dosing options include:

✅ 1-g bolus followed by a second 1-g bolus 1 hour later

✅ 1-g bolus followed by 1 g-infusion over subsequent 8 hours

🏆🥇 2-g bolus up front (suggested in resource-challenged locations, for centres transferring patient out, or where quality audits have shown that the second gram is frequently missed)
