I’m not sure about you, but I don’t know how we’re already at the end of July! But here I am, with some August updates:

It looks like everyone is returning from vacation at the same time - my August days are booking up! Please be sure to book online at tenillermt.janeapp.com and utilize the waitlist or email me if you cannot find a time that works for you. I’ll be sure to get you in.

Construction in the Oliver area (especially 116th) continues to slow commutes from the south, so bear that in mind when you’re coming for an appointment.

Parking around the studio may be more limited at peak times. As always, paid parking is available out front and free street parking can be found on the cross street (see image).

The biggest change this month is that a group fitness studio will be operating out of a couple of the surrounding units, as well as common areas inside SNT. There will be reception at the front desk at some times, increased use of the locker rooms and more foot traffic in the hallways.

While there will be an increase in activity as you’re coming and going, my treatment room remains a calm and therapeutic space. I am doing what I can to mitigate impacts to my clients and will keep you updated about further changes coming this fall 💜

Spending my morning in a call with the World Groove Movement leadership team 💜

Did you know I’ve been a Groove Dance facilitator since 2012? Of all the things I’ve trained in over the years, it remains a great passion and love of mine. I’ve trained in the Kids program, took their Designer training and attended several Groove Retreats around the world.

I believe I’m still the only licensed facilitator in Edmonton, but I know there’s a lot of interest from folks who first found Groove through the home workout program BodyGroove.

I’ve been thinking of getting local classes going for some time now, especially now that I’ve been exploring more of the Edmonton dance community. This meeting inspired me to get thinking more about this - stay tuned 💜

It’s been two years since I moved into my space at SNT! This month also marked five years that I’ve been practicing in Edmonton.

I am so grateful for my amazing patients who make the journey worthwhile. A lot has happened for me over the last few years and my work has helped me to stay *mostly grounded through it all ☺️

Thank you for trusting me with your care; for your patience with my schedule chaos through school, sicknesses and grief; and thank you for making Edmonton feel like home. This is the longest I’ve lived in a city since 2010 and I moved here during the pandemic, so it’s taken a while to feel truly settled here.

I’ve posted recently about some big changes coming for SNT, as Hive Fitness will be sharing some common spaces. I’ve also resumed work on my final paper / case study for school, so lots of exciting things are on the horizon in the coming months 💜

It’s official! The studio I’ve been practicing out of is merging with Hive Fitness (currently operating out of a space across the street).

Starting August 1, Hive will be offering group classes out of the unit in the center of the second floor. This means SNT (and myself) will no longer be offering group fitness classes in the studio next door. All group classes will operate out of the Hive space and all personal training will be part of SNT.

What does that mean for my clients?

-Parking may be impacted at peak times, as Hive group classes are typically quite well attended.
-There will be increased foot traffic in common areas, including the lobby and locker rooms. And obviously, lots of new faces! 😊
-The locker rooms will be getting some maintenance work in the coming weeks 🙌🙌

As a fitness instructor, I appreciate the social side of group classes. I fully anticipate increased conversations in the lobby, which are likely to carry. I’ve done my best to sound proof my treatment space and am looking at options to adjust for the increase in people. I am focused on keeping my treatment space accessible and comfortable for everyone 💜

While I’m technically still a student member, today I’m representing the Alberta Association of Osteopathic Manual Therapists (AAOMT) at a wellness fair for staff and families at Alberta Blue Cross. I have some information about one of our recognized schools (the Canadian School of Osteopathy, which I attended) and am answering questions about the benefits of this work 💜

I tried something new today!
I’ve explored all types of yoga over the years. From yoga nidra and therapeutic yoga to power yoga and Kundalini … and yeah, even cat yoga and (once) goat yoga 😂 But today was my first time exploring yin yoga with a fabric hammock for supportive stretches. I always enjoy trying fun new ways to exercise and/ or stretch!

“Construction season” is upon us. If you haven’t been in the area lately, you may have mostly avoided the traffic nightmare in this part of the city.

With ongoing work all along 104th Ave and frequently reduced lanes on 116th and 109th Streets, it can take significantly longer than usual to get to my space, if you are coming from the south.

And when you do make it to 115th Street, you’ll see that the City has removed the parking payment machines they just installed in January 2024 🤷‍♀️ Payment for parking is now to be done online (see the signs with a QR code).

If you do not have a cell phone or cannot pay, parking is free on 106th Ave and on the residential side of 115th Street.

Celebrating 12 years 🙌
April 1, 2013 my registration with the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia came into effect 💜
Since then, I’ve worked with hundreds of people through the highs and lows of life and I couldn’t be more grateful for those connections. This work has taken me all over Vancouver Island, the Northwest Territories, Fort McMurray and even a brief stint at a remote heliski lodge in northern BC.
March 2020 marked 5 years since I relocated to Edmonton and started building my practice here. Those 5 years have been a roller coaster for me. I had to build clientele during the height of the covid pandemic, all while regularly traveling to and from Vancouver to complete my training at the Canadian School of Osteopathy. I have been unable to finish my final paper to obtain my designation as an Osteopathic Manual Therapist and I miss the advantages of working in a regulated province. I was able to move into my own treatment space inside SNT in July 2023 and regain some of the freedom of self employment I’d come to love on the west coast.
For all the good, the tough and everything in between, the amazing individuals I get to help make it all worth it 🙌 The years have flown by, even while I was back to being a student. My job rarely feels like work, and I am so grateful 💜
