✨ Sciatic-Like Pain: What Can Help ✨

That sharp, aching, burning, or tingling pain that travels through your low back, hips, or down the leg is often described as sciatic-like symptoms. While true sciatica involves irritation of the sciatic nerve, many things can mimic it.

Things that may help relieve symptoms:
✔️ Massage therapy – helps reduce muscle tension that may be compressing or irritating the nerve
✔️ Gentle stretching – especially for hips, glutes, hamstrings, and low back (found easily on YouTube)
✔️ Sitting on a tennis or massage ball – light pressure to tight glute or piriformis muscles
✔️ Posture awareness – avoiding long periods of sitting without breaks

Other conditions that can cause sciatic-like nerve pain include:
• Disc bulges or herniations
• Spinal stenosis
• Sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction
• Pregnancy-related pelvic change

Stronger treatment isn’t automatically a better treatment.

More pressure does not equal a better outcome. While treatment that is too gentle may be ineffective, excessive intensity can be counterproductive, leading to:
- prolonged soreness
- increased muscle guarding
- symptom flare-ups that reduce movement

When the nervous system perceives threat, it shifts into a protective response, limiting tissue adaptability and slowing progress.

Effective care focuses on the minimum effective dose—enough stimulus to create change without triggering defense. Outcomes are measured by improved function and tolerance, not by the amount of discomfort produced.

Cold temperatures reduce blood flow to muscles, causing stiffness and tension. Many people also clench without realizing it—especially in the jaw, shoulders, neck, and lower back.

This can lead to soreness, headaches, and reduced mobility over time.

💆‍♀️ Massage helps warm tissues, improve circulation, and release built-up tension during colder months.

Sadly the warmer temperature is not staying long, so if you’re feeling extra tight or sore this winter, now is a great time to book and stay ahead of it.

My Story

Hey everyone!

My name’s Rhiannon, I’ve practiced as a registered massage therapist for 3 years now. I graduated from the Western College of Remedial Massage Therapies in 2016 learning how to perform relaxation and assessment based therapeutic massage. Over the past 3 years I have also ventured in learning about hot stone massage, cupping therapy, and bamboo massage which are all different ways to help me help you with whatever you are dealing with. I would say my specialty is dealing with rotator cuff injuries or headache/migraine problems.
