History Reclaimed. Community Shared.
Two handcrafted benches made from reclaimed wood from the historic Baxter Bridge have been placed at the Splatsin Community Centre.
Built by the team at Splatsin Development Corporation (SDC) and Splatsin Homes, the benches were completed and delivered on March 10, 2026.
The wood used to build them comes from the former Baxter Bridge near Enderby. When the bridge was decommissioned, SDC salvaged the untreated bridge decking and is now transforming the wood into benches that will be placed at locations across Secwépemcúl’ecw.
Each bench carries a piece of local history — giving new life to the wood while creating welcoming places to sit, gather, and reflect.
Next time you’re at the Splatsin Community Centre, stop by, take a look, and have a seat.
