πŸ€” If you've ever wondered..

πŸ’why your horse still falls to the inside even though your leg is always on?

πŸ’ why your horse refuses to land the correct lead?

πŸ’ why you feel like you're always collapsing to one side?

πŸ’ why your bodyworker is always having to 'fix' the same issues over and over?

πŸ’ why your contact feels all over the place?
.or any other nagging things during your rides..

Katrina ( Leviosa Equine ) and I would love to answer these questions and more at our upcoming Mindful Movement workshop!!

Join us for a weekend of collaborative learning where we discuss common balance and biomechanics issues and help you and your horse improve in all aspects of riding and groundwork.

It will be a small group of 6 with private lessons as well as lectures both days.
Osteopathy session with yours truly is included.

Come hang out a fun group of like-minded people who are seeking lifelong soundness of body, mind and soul for their horse ❀

All disciplines - take home exercises for both on the ground and under saddle.

Just one participant spot left ✨ Auditors warmly welcomed!

A reminder that a lot of the time, little things can be big things (to our horses)!

There's been quite a few horses I've seen recently that have had dental imbalances and the way it impacts their behavior and every day life is all over the map. One thing that stays consistent though: the inability for my osteopathic treatment to stick unless those imbalances are addressed!
The TMJ and poll can't function πŸ’― unless good occlusion is present (alignment of bite). This is such an important junction that the rest of the body will then follow a pattern set by what's going on up front.

And please get your babies checked very regularly!
The filly with the molar misalignment in the photo will need to be checked more frequently than usual because of how her teeth can easily affect her cheek when even the slightest bit 'off'. Thankfully her owner is very observant and noticed little consistent patterns of behavior regarding her head and figured something there was bothering her.

A 30 minute (ish) session that was partially videod and sped up between 7 and 19x πŸ˜‚
Xylan came up sore yesterday so he got a session that focused a lot on his source of pain (lower neck and first rib) along with a good dose of cranial work. 12 weeks ago he was kicked in the face and suffered two fractures. There was still some unraveling from that to do..even though he had also been worked on during the acute phase.

Thought a little video of dog work might be fun since I have only done equine ones before 😊

Some Sunday thoughts..and a gentle reminder that equine bodywork (among other professions) is unregulated in BC.

I LOVE when potential new clients reach out and ask about my education. In fact, I wish it was a more common occurrence.
The amount of times I've actually directly been asked this, or for proof of my schooling?

Twice.

The first photo was a memory that popped up recently from 8 years ago when I was just starting my osteo schooling. It had been 4 years since finishing my first diploma in equine therapy and to say I felt a little overwhelmed was an understatement πŸ˜‚

There are techniques that I was taught 10 years ago that I've since removed from my practice for reasons like being too risky or irrelevant. As the collective industry learns more, we need to keep ourselves adjusted (pun intended) and in the loop. Continuing education is SO important and I firmly believe that anyone working in the therapeutic capacity needs to be keeping up with this.

It was a long road to get where I am today and this isn't meant to be a post about patting myself on the back, but rather a nudge for owners to ask more questions. If you are hiring a new practitioner, inquire about their schooling and their background. This profession requires hands-on coaching to learn to work with living tissueβ€” it's nigh impossible to learn something like spinal manipulation in a few days time. Please consider your horse if you accept someone that's only taken a quick online course on the topic.

I am immensely proud to be an EDO and I look forward to doing my required hours of CE every year. It truly is a never-ending journey of learning and I love being part of organizations that hold osteopaths to a high standard globally.
