If you’ve ever tried our honey bar, you’re probably familiar with our fireweed honey. Known as “the champagne of honey”, fireweed is definitely the most special kind we have. People often wonder why fireweed is more expensive than others. This is mainly to do with the location of the fireweed plant. Often only found in remote forests on crown land, beekeepers are required to travel long distances on forest roads and have to obtain permits to place their hives near fireweed. Additionally, they need an accessible open space with flat areas to place the hives, and then surround them with electric fences to protect the hives from bears. The extra work required to collect this honey is certainly well worth it. Fireweed holds an amazing, delicate taste that you can’t find from any other flower source in BC.
