Since 1961 Community Living Essex County, a non-profit, registered charitable organization has been committed to assisting people of all ages who have an intellectual disability and their families throughout Essex County. The gifts, uniqueness and innate value of each person is celebrated, supported and acknowledged as essential to the completeness of the whole community. We help the community dev

elop its capacity to welcome and support people who have not always had equal opportunities to participate in community life in meaningful, productive ways. Over 700 employees and many dedicated volunteers join together to provide quality supports and inspire opportunity for people with intellectual disabilities of all ages across Essex County. Over the weekend, long-time friends, Kim and David, enjoyed a trip together to Great Lakes Crossing in Michigan, where they spent time shopping and exploring. While they were there, they also visited the Rainforest Café and the SEA LIFE Aquarium. The weekend was filled with shared memories and quality time together as friends.

Today, we welcomed municipal leaders from across Essex County for our annual Luncheon with the Mayors in celebration of Community Living Month.

This year’s theme, This Is Community Living, highlighted who we are, what we do, and the impact of inclusion and belonging in our communities.

Guests heard from speakers across our agency about the work happening every day to support people and families. This included greetings from Ensemble and New Day, Leaders of Today, and presentations about our employment supports, Career Compass, our respite supports, our three Additional Dwelling Units (ADUs) built across the county, and the history of the Community Living movement.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to learn more about building communities where everyone belongs.
