Sometimes trauma looks like:
• Overexplaining
• People-pleasing
• Shutting down
• Always being “fine”
• Overworking
• Avoiding conflict
• Needing control
• Struggling to rest

These aren’t personality flaws.
They’re nervous system survival strategies.

Your brain learned what it had to do to keep you safe.

Healing isn’t about blame — it’s about compassion and retraining safety.

Bessel Van der Kolk who writes the famous book The Body Keeps the Score (everyone should have it on their reading list!!) talks about four general ways to do this:

🌿Find your inner calm and focus (like yoga, mindfulness practice, being curious about your world)

🌿Learning to remain calm even when something reminds you of the past

🌿Being right here right now, in the present (like connecting with your favourite people, places or things)

🌿Not lying to yourself about the ways you survived over the years and being curious about new survival tools
