Maha Shivaratri represents the victory of light over ignorance symbolizing the sacred union of Shakti (energy) and Purusha (consciousness). This celebration goes on all night. It started at 5:34 am this morning and continues to Monday morning at 6:04am.
During this time, devotees usually fast from food but, may drink water; maintain celibacy; offer prayers and chant mantras; visit temple; do not do any heavy physical work; break the fast at parana time. Devotees perform these rituals in order to seek blessings, inner tranquility and spiritual strength and to honour the divine union of Lord Shiva and Parvati.

May this sacred night remind us of the stillness that lives within each of us.
May we awaken to the infinite presence that connects us all.
