Happy Holidays from 🎄

In tradition, Physio Andrea and her husband did the classic “12 Days of Christmas” workout early this morning before the kids were up.

We hope you have a wonderful holiday season - moving your body and spending time with those you love.

Hi 👋 It’s been a while since has been present on social media. I’m often not sure how to properly use these platforms as I don't feel comfortable with self promotion, but since it has been so long, I thought that I should re-introduce myself.

My name is Andrea Gris. I was born and raised in Fernie, and most recently moved to a little acreage in Baynes Lake with my husband and two boys.

I completed my Physical Therapy training in 2014, graduating from the University of British Columbia with a Master’s in Physical Therapy. Prior to this I completed a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Kinesiology from the University of Lethbridge in 2012.

Over my 10 years as a physiotherapist, I have worked primarily in orthopaedics and sport rehabilitation. I am a huge advocate for preventative healthcare and believe in being proactive about injury prevention through the use of education, exercise/load based rehab, and manual therapy.

I have taken many post graduate courses including Mulligan’s Mobilization with Movement, K-Taping, Anatomical Acupuncture, Dry needling, NeuroKinetic Therapy, and Clinical Management of the Fitness Athlete Essential Foundations through the Institute of Clinical Excellence.

Outside of the clinic you can most likely find me chasing my two young boys and exploring the outdoors. A few things that currently fill my cup include hiking, running, horseback riding, strength training, and basketball.

Thank-you for your continued support for my small physiotherapy clinic. It’s been an adventure and constant learning curve running a small business, but it is completely worth it when I see the impact I may have on my patients 🙏

Active rehab 🙌

At we truly believe in the patient playing an active role in their rehabilitation and recovery through exercise.

Yes, we still do the traditional therapies including manual therapy and needling, but a huge part of the process is the empowerment through movement and loading 💪

The hip hinge is a really popular movement pattern you’ll see prescribed in the clinic - for patients with low back pain, but also those trying to learn better movement patterns and dissociate hip flexion from lumbar (low back) flexion.

The hip hinge is the ability to hinge (or bend) at the hips while maintaining a neutral spine. What we’ll often see with patients is that they have a difficult time flexing at the hips without also flexing through their lumbar spine. This puts unnecessary stress on the low back, and over time and repetition, can lead to low back pain. It also limits performance as energy is leaked when performing exercises such as deadlifts and kettlebell swings.

A common exercise we will use in the clinic is the hip hinge with a dowel:

▫️Stand with feet hip width apart and place a dowel on your back

▫️The dowel should make three points of contact with your body 1) back of head 2)centre of mid-back 3) tailbone

▫️Ensure you maintain contact with all three points for the entirety of the movement

▫️Next hinge at the hips by bringing your torso forward and pushing your butt back (think about shutting a car door with your butt)

▫️Lower yourself as far as you feel comfortable, maintaining the three points of contact. Your hamstrings should tell you when to stop

▫️Pull yourself upright using your glutes and hamstrings, standing fully erect at the top.

Happy hinging!
