Healing Waters Hydrotherapy

Healing Waters Hydrotherapy Wellness begins with a balanced body, mind, and spirit. Colon health is a significant part of your digestive health.

Kim is a dedicated naturopath, biofeedback specialist, and colon hydrotherapist who focuses on detoxification, gut health, and energetic alignment to restore vitality and well-being. What happens in your digestion tract has an immense influence on your entire body. Often your body will "inform" you something is wrong. Many of us ignore telltale signs such as :
-low energy - brain fog-constipation-over weight or difficulty to lose weight-trouble sleeping-unexplained headaches-skin problems. These symptoms become our normal, until our health deteriorates more. If you are experiencing any of these problems, you should consider colon hydrotherapy. A colonic therapist performs the colon cleanse while you rest on a table. Water is flushed through a tube into the rectum, toxins and waste is expelled through a different tube, the whole process is repeated. It is a closed system, there is no smell, everything is contained in the tubing. Each client has a prepackaged, disposable, one time use equipment. Warm water flows through the rectum into the colon for irrigation. The goal is to flush the entire colon through multiple filling and emptying cycles during the procedure. Usually, the whole procedure lasts around 40 minutes. Colon Hydrotherapy is a very gentle procedure for cleansing and detoxification of the colon.

Post 10 — Digestive Enzymes

The Helpers That Break Down Your Food

Digestive enzymes are essential for breaking down food into nutrients your body can use.

They work throughout the digestive system — in the mouth, stomach, pancreas, and small intestine — helping your body turn food into energy, strength, and healing.

Without enough digestive enzymes, food may sit in the gut longer than it should, leading to discomfort, poor digestion, and reduced nutrient absorption.

Healthy enzyme activity supports:

Proper digestion
Nutrient absorption
Energy production
Reduced bloating and gas
Healthy metabolism
Whole-body wellness

What Are Digestive Enzymes?

Digestive enzymes are proteins that help break food into smaller particles so your body can absorb nutrients.

Examples include:

Amylase — breaks down carbohydrates
Protease — breaks down proteins
Lipase — breaks down fats

These enzymes are produced naturally by:

The salivary glands
The stomach
The pancreas
The small intestine

Think of digestive enzymes as:

Your food breakdown helpers
Your nutrient unlockers
Your digestive support system

When Digestive Enzyme Levels Are Low, You May Notice:

Bloating
Gas
Indigestion
Feeling overly full after meals
Fatigue after eating
Food sensitivities
Nutrient deficiencies
Slow digestion
Constipation
Difficulty losing weight

These symptoms are common when food is not being properly broken down.

Common Causes of Low Digestive Enzymes

Stress
Poor diet
Aging
Chronic digestive issues
Low stomach acid
Pancreas stress
Dehydration
Gut inflammation
Irregular elimination
Overeating or eating too quickly

Healthy digestion depends on proper enzyme production.

How to Support Healthy Digestive Enzyme Function Naturally

Chew food thoroughly
Eat slowly
Stay hydrated
Reduce stress before meals
Eat balanced meals
Support gut health
Maintain regular elimination
Allow time for digestion

And when waste builds up in the colon, it can interfere with digestive efficiency.

Supporting regular elimination through colon hydrotherapy can help improve digestive flow and support enzyme function.

Practitioner Insight

At Healing Waters Hydrotherapy, many clients notice improved digestion, reduced bloating, and better energy once digestive enzyme function improves.

Your Gut: The Foundation of Health

Post 9 — Small Intestine Nutrient Absorption

Where Your Body Receives the Nutrients It Needs

After food leaves the stomach, it enters the small intestine, where most nutrient absorption takes place.

This is where your body absorbs:

Vitamins
Minerals
Proteins
Fats
Carbohydrates
Water
Electrolytes

The small intestine is the body’s primary site for nourishment.
If absorption is not working properly, the body may still feel tired, weak, or unwell — even when eating healthy foods.

Healthy absorption supports:

Energy production
Immune function
Hormone balance
Brain health
Muscle strength
Whole-body wellness

What Does the Small Intestine Do?

The small intestine:

Breaks down food into usable nutrients
Absorbs vitamins and minerals
Supports hydration and electrolyte balance
Works closely with the pancreas and liver
Feeds every cell in the body

Think of the small intestine as:

Your body’s nutrient gateway
Your energy supply center
Your healing support system

When Nutrient Absorption Is Impaired, You May Notice:

Fatigue
Brain fog
Bloating
Gas
Loose stools or constipation
Food sensitivities
Skin issues
Hair thinning
Weak immune system
Difficulty losing weight
Poor healing

These symptoms often occur when nutrients are not being properly absorbed.

Common Causes of Poor Nutrient Absorption

Inflammation in the gut
Imbalanced gut bacteria
Stress
Poor digestion
Low stomach acid
Chronic illness
Medication use
Nutrient deficiencies
Dehydration
Sluggish elimination

Healthy digestion must occur before healthy absorption can happen.

How to Support Healthy Nutrient Absorption Naturally

Chew food thoroughly
Eat balanced meals
Stay well hydrated
Support healthy digestion
Manage stress
Maintain regular elimination
Support gut bacteria balance
Allow time for digestion

And when waste builds up in the colon, it can interfere with proper absorption.

Supporting regular elimination through colon hydrotherapy can help improve digestive efficiency and support nutrient absorption.

Practitioner Insight

At Healing Waters Hydrotherapy, many clients begin to notice improved energy, clearer thinking, and better digestion once nutrient absorption improves.

Healthy absorption supports:

Energy
Healing
Immunity
Hormone balance
Whole-body wellness

Your body cannot use what it cannot absorb.

Supporting Pepsin Secretion — Helping Your Body Break Down Protein

Did you know?
Pepsin is one of the stomach’s most important digestive enzymes. It works in an acidic environment to break down protein into smaller peptides, making nutrients easier for your body to absorb and use for healing, strength, and energy.

When pepsin secretion is low, you may notice:
• Feeling full after small meals
• Bloating or heaviness after eating
• Undigested food in the stool
• Gas or sluggish digestion
• Fatigue from poor nutrient absorption

Supporting pepsin is really about supporting healthy stomach acid and digestive function.

What Does Pepsin Break Down?

Pepsin helps digest:
• Protein from meat, poultry, fish, and eggs
• Plant proteins from beans, lentils, and nuts
• Collagen and connective tissue
• Essential amino acids needed for healing, hormones, and muscle repair

Simply put:
No pepsin → incomplete protein digestion → reduced nutrient absorption.

Foods That Support Pepsin Secretion

1. Protein-Rich Foods (Stimulate Pepsin Release)
• Chicken
• Fish
• Eggs
• Lentils
• Greek yogurt

2. Bitter & Acidic Foods (Stimulate Stomach Acid)
These help create the environment pepsin needs to work.
• Lemon water
• Apple cider vinegar (before meals)
• Arugula
• Dandelion greens
• Radishes

3. Zinc-Rich Foods (Support Enzyme Production)
Zinc is essential for digestive enzyme function.
• Pumpkin seeds
• Oysters
• Beef or chicken
• Chickpeas
• Sunflower seeds

Simple Ways to Support Pepsin & Digestion
• Chew your food slowly — digestion begins in the mouth
• Eat in a calm state — stress reduces stomach acid
• Avoid drinking large amounts of fluid during meals
• Consider digestive bitters or digestive enzymes when needed
• Support regular elimination — If you eat, you must eliminate

Supporting pepsin is not complicated.
It begins with nourishing the stomach, supporting acid production, and allowing the body to digest protein properly.

Your body is designed to digest, absorb, and heal — sometimes it simply needs the right support.

Your Gut: The Foundation of Health

Post 8 — Pepsin Secretion

Why Protein Digestion Begins in the Stomach

Digestion of protein begins in the stomach.

One of the key digestive enzymes responsible for this process is called pepsin. Pepsin works together with stomach acid to break proteins into smaller pieces so the body can absorb and use them.

Without proper pepsin activity, proteins may not be fully digested, which can lead to digestive discomfort and poor nutrient absorption.

Healthy pepsin secretion supports:

Protein digestion
Muscle repair
Energy production
Immune function
Healthy metabolism

Your body depends on proper protein digestion to build and repair tissues.

What Is Pepsin?

Pepsin is a digestive enzyme produced in the stomach.

It helps:

Break down protein into smaller particles
Support nutrient absorption
Assist stomach digestion
Prepare food for the small intestine
Support healthy digestion

Pepsin is activated by stomach acid — which is why healthy hydrochloric acid (HCL) production is so important.

Think of pepsin as:

Your protein breakdown enzyme
Your tissue-building support system
Your digestive helper

When Pepsin Secretion Is Out of Balance, You May Notice:

• Bloating after meals
• Feeling overly full
• Indigestion
• Gas
• Nausea
• Fatigue
• Muscle weakness
• Poor recovery after illness or exercise
• Food sensitivities
• Nutrient deficiencies

These symptoms can occur when protein is not being properly digested.

Common Causes of Low Pepsin Activity

• Low stomach acid
• Stress
• Aging
• Poor diet
• Eating too quickly
• Chronic digestive issues
• Dehydration
• Certain medications
• Poor gut health
• Nutrient deficiencies

Pepsin depends on healthy stomach conditions to function properly.

How to Support Healthy Pepsin Secretion Naturally

• Eat slowly and chew food thoroughly
• Include adequate protein in meals
• Reduce stress before eating
• Maintain healthy stomach acid levels
• Drink water between meals
• Eat balanced meals
• Support overall digestion
• Maintain regular elimination

And when digestion becomes sluggish:

Supporting healthy elimination through colon hydrotherapy can help the digestive system function more efficiently.

Practitioner Insight

At Healing Waters Hydrotherapy, many clients notice improvements in energy, digestion, and recovery once protein digestion begins to improve.

Healthy protein digestion supports:

Strength
Healing
Immune function
Energy
Whole-body wellness

Protein digestion begins in the stomach — but its effects are felt throughout the entire body.

Your Gut: The Foundation of Health — Series 3

Post 3: Iron, Inflammation, and Insulin Resistance

Iron is essential for energy, oxygen delivery, and metabolism.
But when iron levels, inflammation, and stress become imbalanced, the body may struggle to regulate blood sugar and maintain steady energy.

These systems are closely connected.

Inflammation and chronic stress can interfere with how the body uses insulin, stores iron, and produces energy. Over time, this can contribute to fatigue, metabolic imbalance, and increased inflammation throughout the body.

This is why understanding iron and inflammation is an important step in supporting your pancreas, metabolism, and overall health.

Key Markers That Help Us Understand This Connection

These markers give us insight into inflammation, stress, and metabolic balance:

Ferritin — Iron Storage
Ferritin reflects how much iron is stored in the body and can also rise during inflammation.

Sedimentation Rate (Sed Rate)
This marker helps identify inflammation in the body.

Cortisol — The Stress Hormone
Cortisol helps regulate blood sugar, energy, and the body’s response to stress.

When these markers are out of balance, they may signal that the body is under stress or experiencing inflammation.

Signs Your Body May Be Experiencing Inflammation or Iron Imbalance
• Fatigue or low energy
• Brain fog
• Shortness of breath
• Weakness
• Slow recovery
• Increased inflammation
• Blood sugar fluctuations
• Feeling tired even after rest

These are not random symptoms.
They are signals from the body asking for support.

Why This Matters for Your Gut and Metabolism

Inflammation in the body can affect:
• Insulin sensitivity
• Energy production
• Hormone balance
• Digestion
• Immune function

When inflammation is reduced and iron balance is supported, the body is better able to:
• Produce energy
• Regulate blood sugar
• Support healing
• Maintain metabolic balance

Remember

Your body is always communicating.
Inflammation and stress can quietly affect metabolism.
Early awareness allows early healing.

Let food be your medicine.
Trust your body. Practice body-led healing.

🌿 Supporting Intraluminal Pressure Naturally

Healing Waters Hydrotherapy

Do you feel bloated, crampy, backed up, or experiencing loose stools?
That uncomfortable pressure in the gut is often related to intraluminal pressure — the pressure inside the intestines caused by gas, stool, fluid, or slowed movement.

When the bowel is not moving efficiently, pressure builds.
When movement is restored, pressure is relieved.
Balance is the goal.

One of the most supportive tools for regulating intraluminal pressure is fiber — because it works in both directions:
• Constipation: Fiber pulls water into the stool to soften and move waste out
• Diarrhea: Fiber absorbs excess fluid to help form a normal bowel movement
• Gas & pressure: Fiber supports healthy motility and reduces stagnation

Fiber helps restore rhythm, movement, and comfort in the digestive system.

🌾 Foods That Help Regulate Intraluminal Pressure

High-Fiber Foods (gentle, supportive movement)
• Chia seeds
• Ground flaxseed
• Oats
• Steamed vegetables
• Apples or pears (with skin)
• Lentils and beans (as tolerated)

Magnesium-Rich Foods (support muscle relaxation & bowel motility)
• Pumpkin seeds
• Spinach
• Avocado
• Almonds
• Dark leafy greens

Hydrating Foods (reduce pressure from dehydration)
• Cucumbers
• Celery
• Zucchini
• Berries
• Soups and broths

💊 Supplements That May Help Support Healthy Bowel Pressure

1. Soluble Fiber (such as psyllium or inulin)
Helps regulate stool consistency and reduce pressure in the colon

2. Magnesium (citrate or glycinate)
Supports muscle relaxation and healthy bowel movement

3. Digestive Enzymes
Help break down food properly and reduce gas and bloating

4. Probiotics
Support healthy gut bacteria and balanced intestinal function

5. Electrolytes
Support hydration and proper intestinal muscle activity

🌿 Gentle Daily Tips to Reduce Intraluminal Pressure
• Drink enough water throughout the day
• Eat slowly and chew thoroughly
• Move your body daily (walking is excellent)
• Establish a regular time for bowel movements
• Support elimination — If you eat, you must eliminate

And when needed, colon hydrotherapy can help gently reduce built-up pressure by supporting natural elimination and restoring movement in the bowel.

Your body is designed to move, release, and heal.
When elimination improves, pressure decreases, and comfort returns.
