A big thank you to Holly Payne and Maris Finn for donating a lovely cold plate dinner to the residents today. They certainly appreciated it!

This morning, Riverhead Manor experienced a fire alarm caused by fumes coming from our backup generator.

As a precaution, staff immediately evacuated all residents from the building and transported them safely to vehicles while the situation was checked. The building was cleared and within approximately 20 minutes everyone was safely returned inside once it was confirmed there was no fire.

All residents remained safe and were well cared for throughout the process. Our team followed emergency procedures exactly as required, and we’re extremely proud of how quickly staff responded.

Thank you to the local fire department / RCMP and to those who stopped to assist.

Hydro is issuing a POWER WARNING in effect Saturday morning, January 24, for the island. Customers are asked to CONSERVE electricity. Due to ongoing frazil ice issues at our Bay d'Espoir hydro plant and high power demands, we are asking that all customers on the island conserve their electricity use to help maintain system stability.

Customers can help conserve by:
• Limiting use of hot water and appliances (dishwasher, clothes washer, dryer)
• Turning off unnecessary lighting
• Turning down heat in rooms that are not in use

Our teams, along with divers and specialized equipment, continue to work hard to remove ice in Bay d'Espoir. We'll continue to keep you updated.
