you’re overcomplicating this

Somewhere along the way, we were taught that getting healthy had to be complicated.

Track everything.
Measure everything.
Cut this. Add that.
Start over (again) on Monday.

No wonder it feels overwhelming.

But what if the problem isn’t you…
—it’s the complexity?

Because your body doesn’t need confusion.
It needs clarity.

Simplicity looks like:
• Eating real, recognizable food
• Listening to your body
• Creating habits you can actually sustain
• Letting go of rules that don’t serve you

Not perfect.
Not extreme.
Just consistent and clear.

That’s where things start to shift.

Because when it’s simple…
It’s doable.
When it’s doable…
It becomes sustainable.
And that’s where real results live.

CHOICE
this is where it changes

It’s easy to believe that change happens with a big decision.
A plan. A program. A fresh start on Monday.

But real change?

It happens in the small, quiet moments.

The moment you pause…
The moment you notice the habit…
The moment you choose something different.

I really think it is time we start paying closer attention to how food actually makes us feel.

Not what the label says.
Not what the latest trend promises.

But your body.

💙Does it give you energy?
💙 Or leave you sluggish?
💙 Clear-headed?

Don't just sit there... 𝐆𝐄𝐓 𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄!

Our bodies were made to move, and one of the best ways to get motivated to move is to get outside. Studies have shown that there are huge psychological benefits to doing any sort of exercise outside, from walking to jogging, hiking to biking or even yoga!

Besides helping to either release or maintain weight and health, here are a few more reasons why you should plan on getting outside this weekend!

☀️𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲:
Researchers believe that when you breathe in phytocides (chemicals produced by plants that you breathe in the air) your white blood cell count is increased and this helps you fight off disease and infection.

☀️𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲:
Heading outside for even just 20 minutes gives your brain a boost . Additionally, being outside can help your mind relax, leading to a rebound of energy and decrease in mental fatigue.

☀️𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧 𝐃:
Vitamin D helps your body soak up calcium (making for stronger bones), lowers inflammation, and prevents osteoporosis. Being outside in the sun can give you more than 90% of your vitamin D.

☀️𝐀𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲:
“Stop and smell the flowers” isn’t just a saying. Breathing in natural scents such as flowers, pine, and grass makes you feel more relaxed and calm.

☀️𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭-𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲:
Being outdoors, especially walking or hiking in the woods, has memory-boosting effects, as well as helps in restoring your focus.

☀️𝐀 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞-𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫:
Being in nature lowers cortisol… the stress hormone. You’re just an outdoor walk away from less stress!

And, you can make it fun by listening to your favourite music, adding in some friends and heading out to explore new places!

All calories are 𝐍𝐎𝐓 created equal!

Think about it.... 100 calories from carrots are 𝐍𝐎𝐓 the same as 100 calories from potato chips.

When we think that all calories are the same, then we are assuming that the food we eat has no effect on the body and we treat calories similar to a bank account.

But... we are complex systems and calories are used for things like 𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐅𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍, 𝐓𝐎 𝐏𝐔𝐌𝐏 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐓, 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐒 𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐖 and 𝐓𝐎 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐆𝐄 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐒. Every time that you put food in your mouth, you set off a chain of complex reactions across your 𝑾𝑯𝑶𝑳𝑬 body!

Food quality matters more than calories.

Carbohydrates matter more than calories.

Protein matters more than calories.

Fat and Vitamins matter more than calories.

Most "diets" involve some sort of calorie restriction, but calorie restriction is 𝐍𝐎𝐓 a long term plan. Yes, when you initially cut calories, you will lose weight. But continued calorie restriction over time will be viewed as a 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓 by your body. In order to preserve itself, it will actually start to slow your metabolism, which forces you to burn 𝐅𝐄𝐖𝐄𝐑 calories.

Every time you cut calorie intake, your body becomes more efficient at burning less calories.

When I am asked about counting calories, my answer always is that I don't! I am more concerned with getting in my fruits, vegetables, proteins and fats in a healthy and nutritious way than I am about counting calories!

And truthfully, this makes eating a healthy diet so much easier!

Cravings are more likely than not a mixture of social, cultural, environmental and many many other cues rather than just a nutritional need.

Think about it, if our cravings matched our nutritional needs we would be reaching for carrots and hummus during that stressful work project or a kale salad when feeling down. 🥕🥗

𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐐𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞: "𝐈’𝐦 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧, 𝐈 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐚"

Emotional eating is a difficult beast.

The reasons why we feel the need to eat during bad times is mainly due to a need for comfort or security. Your primal brain is telling you to eat something (usually high in fat and sugar) because that will activate pleasure centers in the brain and (the brain thinks) that this will solve the problem.

The best way to combat emotional eating is actually to first recognize that you are feeling emotional. Labeling your emotions can be a very powerful tool in calming yourself down and looking further into your reasons behind wanting ice cream or pizza. Ask yourself, why am I sad, what do I need? If it’s a hug, a call to a friend, or even if it is pizza, let that be okay.

𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐐𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞: "𝐈’𝐦 𝐬𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝, 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬"

Stress can wreak havoc on anyone especially if you don’t recognize what is going on.

Feeling stressed triggers a multitude of reactions in the body including the production of leptin. What is leptin? Leptin is a hormone that regulates of appetite and fat storage, aka it makes you 𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒓𝒚.

Knowing this, it can be beneficial to practice mindful eating when feeling “stress hunger”.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐩:

I really think it is time we stop thinking it’s too late.

Too late to lose the weight.
Too late to feel good again.
Too late to change habits.

That belief? It’s one of the most dangerous ones out there.

Because it quietly convinces people to stop trying.

And when you stop trying… that’s when things actually start to decline.
