Winter is here, and year after year we are faced with the same reality people in our community are spending freezing nights with nowhere safe to go.
Individuals are navigating the cold while shelters remain stretched beyond capacity. Frontline organizations and the City of Welland have made real efforts to respond, and we are grateful for the work being done. Still, the need continues to exceed what is currently available. This is not about blame it’s about recognizing the gap and responding to it.
At Beyond the Streets, advocacy has always been part of who we are. We speak up because we know change is possible, and we are willing to help be that change.
We have successfully operated an Out of the Cold emergency shelter, including a dry shelter option. We have the experience, the volunteers, and the supplies to do this work again.
WHAT WE NEED IS A LOCATION
This post is about awareness and starting conversations. If you are a faith community, organization, business, or property owner with access to a suitable space and are open to partnering to create a safe, warm, dry overnight option this winter, we want to hear from you.
When systems are stretched, community-led solutions matter.
And when community comes together, change happens.
If you are not in a position to help directly, please consider sharing this post so it reaches someone who can.
