CORE DIFFERENCES
You really can't compare your DRA to anyone else's, especially not by gap size. You can see that even with the same gap width, 4 people can still have differences.
This means that all 3-finger diastases are not the same, all 2-finger diastases are not the same, and all 1-finger diastases are not the same.
Sometimes, someone with a 3-finger diastasis is actually more similar in function and appearance to someone with a 1-finger diastasis than someone else with a 3-finger gap.
This again raises the question, how much does the gap really matter? Does it matter? Will closing it change anything? Can it close?
Even the experts and researchers don't have answers to many of our questions. What that means is everything still can be questioned, including programs that guarantee your diastasis will close.
What can we focus on instead? How about strength, function, and returning to the activities you want to do? These are concrete things we CAN work on :)
Just in case you're new to following me: in the picture, the pink rectangles are the left and right re**us abdominis muscles. They are surrounded by connective tissue which are simply extensions of the three muscles off to the side (orange arrows). The grey lines are the linea alba.
