As we're getting ready to reopen things, I'm hoping to add more pelvic floor workshops onto our events calendar. It's been two long years since I've taught the program.
How are you most comfortable attending - in-person or virtually?

Too many people have their sitz bones squeezed together in a butt grip, thereby turning off the pelvic floor and therefore their core. Yes, we are a culture of

Pessaries can be great for management of prolapse.

I love pessaries for prolapse management. I wear a pessary for my own prolapse (perhaps oversharing a bit there) and fitting pessaries have been a great adjunct to all the other things (pelvic floo…

CORE DIFFERENCES

You really can't compare your DRA to anyone else's, especially not by gap size. You can see that even with the same gap width, 4 people can still have differences.

This means that all 3-finger diastases are not the same, all 2-finger diastases are not the same, and all 1-finger diastases are not the same.

Sometimes, someone with a 3-finger diastasis is actually more similar in function and appearance to someone with a 1-finger diastasis than someone else with a 3-finger gap.

This again raises the question, how much does the gap really matter? Does it matter? Will closing it change anything? Can it close?

Even the experts and researchers don't have answers to many of our questions. What that means is everything still can be questioned, including programs that guarantee your diastasis will close.

What can we focus on instead? How about strength, function, and returning to the activities you want to do? These are concrete things we CAN work on :)

Just in case you're new to following me: in the picture, the pink rectangles are the left and right re**us abdominis muscles. They are surrounded by connective tissue which are simply extensions of the three muscles off to the side (orange arrows). The grey lines are the linea alba.

The more we talk about pelvic floor disorders, the more others retaliate they are not alone! Keep talking about it. I know I will.

Pelvic floor issues are a common health problem, especially after childbirth, but patients and women's health advocates say not enough is being done to educate people.
