There are people who wake up every morning and talk to their AI girlfriend or boyfriend.
The AI tells them how wonderful they are. How sexy they look today. How hot they are.
And honestly. Who does not want to hear that sometimes?
Andrew Phipps of is doing his PhD on the ethics of AI relationships, and his question is one most people are not willing to sit with.
Is that necessarily a bad thing?
Because we default to AI intimacy as bad, human intimacy as good.
But human relationships can be coercive.
Painful.
Damaging in ways that take years to undo.
An AI is not going to do that to you.
The line he draws is the moment you stop realizing you are talking to an AI at all.
When you start believing it is a person.
That is where it gets complicated.
But before that line, there is a lot more nuance than we are giving this.
We are at the beginning of something we do not yet fully understand, and the guardrails are not in place.
AI companies know what they have built.
They are making a calculated decision to wait until something goes wrong before they act.
We have seen this before.
Andrew joined me to talk about it all.
