Fireweed Wellness Lodge

Fireweed Wellness Lodge Indigenous care providers supporting families through culturally safe programming, services, education And we governed by natural law and Ceremony.

ihkapaskwa Indigenous Wellness Collective is a local Non-Profit, centred around wahkohtowin. wahkohtowin is a Cree word which denotes the interconnected nature of relationships, communities, and natural systems. Our programming provides wrap-around support dedicated to Indigenous families that offers a continuum of care across the life cycle by reclaiming traditional kin systems within the community. We are dedicated to address gaps in service in western healthcare through support-based Indigenous kinship systems, and incorporating traditional ways of healing and wellness. By incorporating Elders, Aunties, Uncles and Birthworkers we are reawakening traditions, and incorporating them into our families. Adding to the collective healing of our communities, right from birth.

✨ Aunties on the Go ✈️ ✨

We are honoured to be invited by the Tthebatthie Denesuline Nation to travel north to support connection with community, Grandmothers, families, and care providers.

Over the next few days, we will be gathering in a good way, through sharing, learning, and building relationships together.

We warmly invite you to join us:

🧡 Grandmothers’ Circle – supper, sharing, and visioning together
🧡 Circle of Aunties (Coffee & Sharing) – connect with helpers and care providers
🧡 Belly Button Bag Teachings – hands-on learning and traditional teachings
🧡 Community Open House – maternal health, Indigenous birthwork, and midwifery

This time is about community, culture, and coming together to support families in a good way.

✨ We would love to see you there.

Event details are all managed by the Nation themselves. Please contact them for registration or event details. Some are full and closed to the public. However all are welcome

Last week, we had the privilege of hosting a menstrual cup demonstration for the Centre of Hope Drop In Centre.

With the support of we were able to donate a variety of products for the patrons to use including The Bfree Cup- the first, and currently only, medical-grade silicone menstrual cup with built-in antimicrobial technology that eliminates the need for boiling to sanitize it. Sharing menstrual products that are easy to care for and easy to use is important!

We’re so grateful for organizations that reach out and are eager to learn more about Moontime and the impact of sustainable period care. 💕

Community Health Reminder 🔔

There are a high number of respiratory and flu-like illnesses circulating in the community right now.
To help protect the families we serve — including newborns, pregnant people, and those with vulnerable health — we ask that anyone experiencing symptoms stay home and reschedule their appointment.

Symptoms include (but are not limited to):
• fever
• cough
• sore throat
• runny nose
• vomiting or diarrhea
• body aches or chills

Please do not enter the Lodge if you are feeling unwell or if you have had any of these symptoms within the past 24 hours.

If you need to cancel or move your appointment, simply text us at 587-604-0890 and we will be happy to reschedule you.

Our team members are also parents of young children, and we work closely with medically vulnerable clients. Doing our part to limit illness in our shared space helps protect everyone in our community.

Thank you for your understanding and care for one another. 🤍

✨ Growing the next generation of Indigenous care providers ✨

At Fireweed Wellness Lodge, mentorship and learning in community are an important part of what we do.
Our Registered Indigenous Midwife Maddie Amyotte serves as a preceptor for both nursing and midwifery students, helping future providers experience what culturally safe, community-rooted care truly looks like.

Right now we’re honoured to have Kathleen, a 3rd-year RN student from and a proud member of First Nation, completing her preceptorship with us.

Today our team travelled to Fort Chipewyan, partnering with Nunee Health and the to host a community conversation about midwifery and bringing birth closer to home.
Kathleen joined us for the day alongside Peyton, a 3rd-year Indigenous Midwifery student who has been completing placement in the Labour & Delivery Unit at Northern Lights Regional Health Centre.

These opportunities allow students to learn directly in community, understand the realities families face, and see what relationship-based, culturally safe care can look like in practice.

Supporting Indigenous students in these spaces is something we are deeply proud of. 🌿

We’re also excited to continue growing this work and will be welcoming another Indigenous midwifery student for placement with Maddie this May.
