We couldn’t be more excited to announce that Sunlife is launching direct billing for social workers and psychologists on October 1!

We’ve been told that each clinic’s registration with Sunlife may take a couple weeks to process (we hope to be submitting claims by mid-October).

If any of our current clients want to add their Sunlife insurance, please call, text, or email Miranda at 780-838-5070 or info@borealtherapycollective.ca.

People often struggle with accountability if they have patterns of defensiveness or limited conflict resolution skills. When conflict arises or mistakes inevitably happen, there tends to be a tendency to focus on what the other person did wrong.

But true connection requires looking inward and owning your part. Practicing accountability allows you to cultivate trust and deepen emotional intimacy with others.

Research shows that the typical person spends 2.5 hours each day engaging with social media platforms. In many ways, social media has become an automatic extension of how we connect and even validate our inner experiences.

However, if you're struggling with mental health concerns (like low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, poor impulse control, or emotional dysregulation), social media may aggravate certain symptoms. Having increased awareness can help you feel more empowered with your online habits.

Whether we like it or not, AI is everywhere these days. It’s becoming rapidly integrated into our daily lives, and mental health is no exception. From people using AI-generated journal prompts to confiding in therapy chatbots, we’re in the early stages of exploring how digital tools can support emotional well-being. While some of these tools can be helpful, it’s equally important to be mindful of the very real risks.

At Boreal Therapy Collective, we’re noticing an increasing number of people bringing up AI in sessions. While we’re not anti-technology, we believe it’s essential to separate clinical reality from digital hype. All mental health support is nuanced, and AI, despite its undeniable speed and accessibility, can’t fully replace the complexity of therapeutic relationships.

Let's be honest - technology use is unavoidable. It's a central part of everyday life. As a parent, it may be challenging to know when, how, or even if you should introduce electronic devices to your child. You might also hear conflicting messages: one expert might demonize all screen time, whereas another expert might insist it's educational. Meanwhile, you might be trying to make dinner or get through a difficult meltdown at the grocery store.

At Boreal Therapy Collective, we're not here to offer overly rigid rules or impose any moral judgment about how parents raise their children. We understand the complex reality of parenting in this digital world. However, we are here to help you understand how electronics and social media can impact your child's mental health. By understanding brain development and knowing what's at stake, you can make more intentional choices with your family.

It’s been a week of celebration at Boreal Therapy Collective!

People show up in our lives unexpectedly and impact us in ways we never could have imagined.

Leah moved to Fort McMurray in 2024, during the final stages of her Master of Social Work degree. The move brought about an urgent need for a field placement (the final requirement prior to her graduation). Of all the options available in Fort McMurray, Leah reached out to us. We’re calling it fate

As a parent, you want to support your child and nurture them well. No matter your family circumstances, there's often a fierce desire to shield and protect your children from pain. That said, many parents find it hard to discern the line between supporting and enabling behaviours. On May 15, Boreal Therapy Collective celebrated two years in Fort McMurray!

While we’re a whole month late, we want to offer our most sincere thank you to everyone who continues to place their trust in us - you are the heart of our practice. Your willingness to explore your experience, and to show up with vulnerability and authenticity, inspires us every day.

As therapists, we’re often asked what we gain from this work. The answer is simple: we grow, too. We learn new ways of seeing the world. We gain insight into the depth of human resilience. And we’re continually reminded of our own capacity for change. That’s the beauty of authentic connection - it’s never one-sided.

So, here’s to another year of healing, growth, and shared humanity. We’re so grateful to be on this journey with you 💜.

After nearly two years of juggling life as a mom, therapist, and full-time student, we’re so incredibly excited to share that Kim has graduated with her Master of Social Work at Wilfred Laurier University!

To the surprise of no one, Kim displayed both academic and professional excellence throughout her program, receiving an award for her exceptional performance in her field placement.

At Boreal Therapy Collective, we all recognize Kim as the most kind, compassionate, and authentic colleague (and friend) there is. She is so deserving of every success and all the goodness this world has to offer.

We are so honoured to celebrate her 💜.

Congratulations, Kim!

Dayirai Kapfunde, one of the contracted therapists at Boreal Therapy Collective, was just awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal. This recognition was given in honour of her commitment to social justice, decolonization, and destigmatizing mental wellness through social work and research.

A message from Dayirai:

“To be acknowledged for my contributions to Canada in this way is both humbling and inspiring. This is not just my achievement - it is a testament to the philosophy of Ubuntu, the power of collective work, advocacy, and the unwavering dedication to justice and collective healing. Thank you to all who have supported and believed in this mission. Let’s continue to push forward, invest in our communities, and build spaces where everyone can thrive”.

Make no mistake, Dayirai is a force. She is a change seeker, a change maker, and a brave and authentic leader. She prioritizes service-based leadership and service-based scholarship for all people above all else. We’re grateful to have her at Boreal Therapy Collective and know our community, province, and country are better places because of her.

At Boreal Therapy Collective, it is our sincere hope that the King Charles III Coronation Medal serves as a signal of the commonwealth's commitment to confronting historical injustices, advancing decolonization, and supporting truth and reconciliation. The status quo is not acceptable, and it is crucial that we move forward with the work of healing, equity, and justice for all.
