Stress is a part of our everyday lives that our bodies are incredibly capable of handling in small doses.
In extreme stressful situations, our nervous systems go into Fight, Flight, Freeze, or Fawn modes to divert our energy for survival. It’s a beautiful way our brain is designed to keep us alive, but it can cause us to act differently than we normally would.
If you see someone acting unusual, take a moment to check in with them to see if they are ok.
Stress doesn’t just come from extreme events like wildfires and other natural disasters. Some people are living with chronic levels of stress due to family, financial, health or other challenges.
Taking a moment to show care and concern, instead of judgement and criticism, allows for feelings of connection and safety. Feeling safe helps to regulate our nervous systems, which can help us get back to functioning normally again.
