Did you know that Doctors of optometry are often the first health-care professionals to detect high blood pressureโ€‹
By looking at the blood vessels in the retina at the back of the eye, an eye exam can help identify risks for stroke or heart attackโ€”before they occur.
Information obtained through an eye exam often helps determine appropriate treatment for patients, decreasing the risks of cardiovascular disease.
This is one of the tests that we offer to our patients.

Too often, parents are led to believe their child is seeing perfectly well because she passed a school vision screening. Or adults think they see perfectly because they pass a vision screening at the motor vehicle department. Frequently, neither of these assumptions are correct.

Vision screenings are just that โ€” they screen out individuals who have serious (and usually quite obvious) vision problems. Screenings can identify apparent problems a person might have with specific visual tasks, such as seeing a chalkboard clearly in the classroom or recognizing road signs and other objects from behind the wheel.

Only a comprehensive eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist can ensure your vision is as clear and comfortable as possible โ€” and that you're free from potentially serious eye diseases that donโ€™t have obvious early symptoms, including glaucoma and even eye cancer.

Considering a break-up with to***co? Perfect timing! It's National Non-Smoking Week! Among the many health benefits, avoiding smoking or taking steps to quit lowers your risk of vision impairment and vision loss.

It is well known that smoking is detrimental to your health. Smoking to***co harms every organ in your bodyโ€” your eyes included. Smoking to***co is the single most preventable cause of death and disease in Canada. Most smokers are not aware that their to***co use is a preventable cause of blindnes...
