Meet with Rachel Klassen:
My name is Rachel Klassen. I am a Counsellor with Northern Health, and I work on the First Nations mobile support team. I provide counselling services at the Nak’azdli Health Centre on Wednesdays from 10am until 4pm. It is an honour and a privilege to provide counselling services because it has been my dream to become a Counsellor since I was in Grade 10. I was born and raised in Fort St. James, so I am appreciative to have the opportunity to give back to the community that I grew up in.
I hold a Bachelor of Social Work degree and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree. I have applied to receive the Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation through the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) because I meet all their strict requirements. The CCC designation is a protected title reserved only for Counsellors who possess a Master’s Degree in Counselling or a related field, in addition to holding the national standards for training and professional practice.
I practice counselling from trauma-informed, biopsychosocial, and feminist-based perspectives, incorporating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and wholistic approaches into my practice. I believe that every client is an expert on their own life. My role is to guide and empower all my clients to reach their full potential. I am available to provide free mental health support regarding any every day struggle. I have experience supporting individuals with a range of stressful situations such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, violence in relationships (domestic violence, coercive control), childhood trauma, sexual assault, addiction/substance abuse, anger management, stress/burnout/compassion fatigue, grief/loss, and trauma. With a client’s consent I can also provide referrals to additional providers in our community to better serve you.
