My Personal Ideal Protein Journey
I began my Ideal Protein Weight Loss journey in July 2009 as an dieter, coach and business owner all at the same time. It all started when my husband, a chiropractor, and I signed up for a Chiropractic Practice Management Seminar Series in Seattle. We frequently had dinner with another Doctor and his wife at these seminars and over a very few months we saw their pounds literally melting away before our eyes. My husband and I asked how they managed this weight loss so quickly while looking so full of energy and health and they told us about Ideal Protein. We thoroughly researched Ideal Protein and arranged to meet with Carol Schmick, Business Consultant for Ideal Protein and were very impressed with the solid science and the protocol behind Ideal Protein. I made the decision to make Ideal Protein my personal profession and passion and so began the business of weight loss coaching.
My training was extensive and thorough in how not to lose weight. I had tried every fad diet from my adolescence to my mid fifties, had crash dieted my weight down to a low of 125 and emotionally ate my way up to triple digits and down again on the Scarsdale Diet, the Adkins Diet, the Cabbage Soup Diet, the tomato and egg diet and numerous other disasters. My emotional eating behavior started when I was only five years old, I was told, as my family was eating their ice cream after supper, that I was fat and couldn’t have any. It became my go to food of choice for most of my life. Did you know that chocolate doesn’t freeze as hard as vanilla and that Cookies and Cream and anything with Caramel can be eaten easily with the spoon hidden right in the freezer! As a child my nicknames were the “S” words, Sherman tank( my maiden name was Sherman), stout, sturdy, strong, stumpy and short. Not all that complimentary, I am not particulary tall even now. Looking back I wasn’t even that overweight compared to today’s youth. However, this was the start of a lifetime of emotional eating and roller coasting crash dieting with my weight bouncing between 125 and around 200 pounds ( I never weighed myself when my weight went really high). Most of the time my weight stayed in the middle zone as I was very active as a professional horse trainer and put in 12- 18 hour days non stop. Then came a lifestyle change. I had changed from a job that I loved training horses and riders to the National and International level which kept me physically active all day to an office job that I was untrained for and felt inadequate doing with little physical activity. With a significant decrease in physical activity and feeling very stressed my weight began increasing almost day to day. I had reached a state of desperation by the time I discovered Ideal Protein.
Ideal Protein believes in education, education, education. I was fortunate to have Carol Schmick as my trainer when I began as a coach and owner of an Ideal Protein Approved Center. She taught me the principles of the Ideal Protein Protocol, the skills for effective coaching and the basics of nutrition, health, weight loss while maintaining your lean mass. Today Ideal Protein Centers have a dedicated professional to work with their coaches and owners.
I came to realize that even though I had dieted extensively over the years I really had never thought of my weight management in terms of nutrition and health. I have a bachelors in Microbiology and a minor in Animal Nutrition and just never thought my personal weight journey was anything more than eating lots of salads until I binged and put the weight back on. I know, duh.
