🏐A Volleyball player coming in for shoulder rehab/maintenance!
🙋Volleyball players repetitively use their shoulders for overhead serving, spiking and blocking, which commonly leads to shoulder pain.
♨️Overuse of the rotator cuff muscles can lead to rotator cuff tendinitis or tears.
💪Acupuncture coupled with e-stim helps to greatly speed up the healing process!

🧐Why THAT point? Wednesday Nov 21/18

🚇 After missing last week's entry (oops), we return with a proper with Pericardium 7!

🚇 PC 7 is a double whammy of a point with the capability of treating both mental and physical issues.

🚇 On the physical side of things, PC 7 is THE point for treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. As the needle is inserted along the carpal tunnel itself.

🚇 As for mental health, this point is great for calming the mind, treating palpitations, anxiety, and for when you feel like there is a tightness in your chest.

🕵️ Locating PC 7 is a breeze. On the palm-side of your wrist, find the two tendons (making a fist helps). It is located between these two tendons at the wrist crease.

as I ran out of time/forgot to post last night, we will have a good old fashioned Why THAT point? Wednesday! I'll do better next week, promise 🙏
--------------------------------------------------------------------
🧐Why THAT point? Wednesday September 4/18
·
·
🐪 We resume this week with the fantastic Bladder 40!
·
·
🐪 It is another command point - this time of the lower back. As such, this point is nearly always added to a point prescription when treating lumbar pain. Both acute and chronic, back pain be gone!
·
·
🐪 Also a fantastic point for knee pain! What a bonus 🎰
·
·
🕵️ Easy enough to find, at the back of the knee in a depression between the two tendons (biceps femoris and semitendinosus)
·
·
🐏 Short but sweet this week, stay tuned for the next point! Thanks for reading and thank you for your leg 👌

👂 This evening we are taking a look at Gall Bladder 2!

👂 An important point for a wide variety of ear disorders such as tinnitus, deafness, discharge, and pain.

👂 Also very useful when dealing with issues involving the jaw. GB 2 is one of my go-tos when it comes to treating TMJ dysfunction!

🕵️ To locate, place your finger directly in front of your ear. Now open your jaw and your finger should fall into a small depression. This is where, from top to bottom, SJ 21, SI 19, and GB 2 are located.

😬 Guilty of grinding your teeth? Pain while chewing? Come visit me

🧐Why THAT point? Wednesday SPOOKY HALLOWEEN EDITION

🧟‍♂️ A point most people find SCARY at first, Bladder 1! 🌩️🌩️🌩️

🧟‍♀️ Although BL 1 can be a bit unnerving at first, it's benefits are definitely no TRICK.

🧟‍♂️ A fantastic point to use when dealing with visual disturbances and issues such as swelling, redness, dryness and pain - it's a real TREAT to the old eyeballs. 👁️👁️

🕵️ Bladder 1 is located just slightly diagonally (towards the nose) above the inner canthus of the eye.

👻Happy Halloween everyone, be safe and have some treats 🍬🍭🍫

🧐Why THAT point? Wednesday October 24/18

🎃 I've had an influx of neck pain orientated treatments lately and so today's point is the appropriate extra point Luozhen!

🎃 With all the studying for midterms lately comes an increase in poor posture - heads and shoulders slumped in suboptimal positions for hours at a time. Same rings true for those whose job involves sitting at a desk all day.

🎃 Luozhen's function is simple. Indicated for pain and stiffness of the neck, it proves very effective in providing relief when combined with local needling of the neck muscles.

🕵️ Located between and just past the knuckles of your first and second fingers. This point is also often located with a loose fist formed (I don't always find and needle it that way, as you can see in the video)

🤳 Remember to give your poor neck and spine a break, look up from your books/work *cough* cellphone *cough* from time to time and stretch. Also don't forget that I'm here at New Balance Chiropractic Clinic to help too!

🧐Why THAT point? Wednesday October 17/18

🎈 Kidney 6 is the focus for today!

🎈 Paired with Lung 7, this point opens the Ren Mai (Aka the Conception Vessel) which especially relates to the reproductive organs. As such when treating reproductive issues or supporting reproductive health, Ren is one of the go-tos.

🎈 Now flip flop the two points, KI 6 first and LU 7 second, you open the Yin Qiao Mai which is quite handy when it comes to excessive sleepiness (among other things).

🎈 Independently, KI 6 is no pushover either! Well known for treating menopausal conditions like hot flashes and night sweats; along with menstrual orders.

🕵️ Finding KI 6 is a cinch, just find your medial malleolus (the bony bump on the inside of your ankle) and run your finger directly below it. It is located in a depression between two bundles of ligaments.

🎉Thanks for reading! Till next time!

🤰 A simple but useful point this evening, Bladder 67.

🤰 While most babies tend to flip head down/bottom up around 30-32 weeks, some remain upright with their bottom down - this is called "Breech Baby". This can be dangerous for both the baby and mother during birth.

🤰 BL 67 can help! When used with moxibustion therapy, preferably beginning around week 34 (PLEASE don't come in at week 40 and expect a miracle) this can help the baby turn into the proper position.

🤰And as a double whammy, BL 67 can also facilitate labour for when baby just doesn't want to leave! (Using needling this time, no moxibustion)

🕵️ Found on the outside of the little toe, right beside the corner of the nail.

✌️Spin and Launch

🦃Happy Turkey Day!🦃

🍗If you are like me, you will probably overdo it on all the delicious Thanksgiving goodies (Bring it on!)

🥧But hey, this doesn’t happen very often, so I say go for it! Have that second helping of that delicious dark meat, rebuild that mash potato volcano for the third time, dive head first into that xth piece of pumpkin pie and don’t look back! (I’m not judging)

🏳️….And after that delicious destruction is done, maybe take the time to help out that poor Stomach (and Spleen, Liver, Gallbladder, etc, etc.) with the aftermath.

💪📍Acupuncture to the rescue!

😋Your taste buds have been satisfied, now let’s take care of the rest of you.

🐷I'll be the large round fellow at

🚰Oh and drink lots (of water), stay hydrated friends!

🍗 Today we look at our second Extra point, Baichongwo!

🍗 This point has two important actions, one more traditional and the other more of a modern application ✌️

🍗 As for the TCM usage, Baichongwo is great for helping to alleviate itching in skin diseases (much like it's neighbour SP 10, as previously covered)

🍗 More of a modern approach, this point also doubles as the Motor Point for the Vastus Medialis muscle. A motor point is where the nerve enters the muscle and is the most electrically excitable area of said muscle. When needled, it can cause the muscle to twitch - ultimately helping to "reset" and relax the muscle fibers. 😌

🕵️ In order to find Baichongwo, find the top border of your knee cap and travel about 3cun/inches up the inside of the thigh onto the bulge (FLEX 💪) of the Vastus Medialis.
Alternatively, find SP 10 and travel about a thumb width up. (FLE###XX)

🧐Why THAT point? Wednesday September 26/18

🎩 A very important point today, Lung 7 has many functions.

🎩 LU 7 is one of the primary points to "Release the Exterior" - it helps the body activate the immune system in order to get rid of the pathogen that is causing that pesky head cold. It opens the door and gives those germs the boot!

🎩 Just like LI 4 in an earlier post, LU 7 is also a command point. However instead of the face, it benefits the head and nape of the neck - Headaches and Neck Stiffness be gone!

🎩 LU 7 is also the Master point of the Ren Mai meridian which is very involved with the female reproductive system. By utilizing this extraordinary meridian, treatments become much more effective when focusing on the uterus, menstruation, menopause, pregnancy, etc.

🕵️ To find this heavy hitter, find the anatomical s***f box at the base of your thumb, back of your hand. Slide your finger over your wrist until it falls between the tendons just after that bony bump (the styloid process).

🤒🤧Cold and Flu season approaches, if you need me I'll be at New Balance Chiropractic Clinic

📦Received some Chinese medicinal herbal formulas from to try!

🌿TCM herbs, while potent and powerful, have never really tasted very good.🤢

🔬Dao Labs has focused on the goal of taking these tried and true classic formulas and making them MUCH more palatable.

🌳Not only that, they are sustainably sourced and very easy to take. Simply add to water, stir, drink!

🍽️ Today we look at the Pepto Bismol point - Stomach 25 (ST25)!

🍽️ It belongs to a group of points known as Front Mu points. Each Organ has it's own, and they are very useful in treating conditions involving said organ.

🍽️ That being said, ST 25 is NOT the Front Mu of the stomach, but rather the Large Intestine. As such, it is great in treating intestinal problems such as Diarrhea, Constipation, and poor digestion.

🍽️ Useful in the treatment of IBS, as it can help relieve associated symptoms like nausea, abdominal pain and cramping, as well as bloating and distension!

🕵️ Locating ST 25 is simple - inline with the belly button, 2 thumb widths (2 cun) adjacent.

The perfect point to help digest that cookie and muffin in the background 🍪

🌋 We continue the backpain trend from last week with DU 4

🌋 Just like BL 40 from last week, DU 4 greatly influences the lumbar spine albeit locally in comparison.

🌋 However, while BL 40 is generally used for all types of low back pain, DU 4 is mainly indicated with deficiency types - especially of the Kidneys.

🌋 It is also a great point for treating fatigue and boosting energy!

🕵️ To locate DU 4, palpate and find the lower border of the second Lumbar Vertebrae. You will find a small depression. Bingo!

😴 Sorry for the later post, things got a bit hectic today! Thanks for reading, till next time!

“So what is Qi anyways?”

😏That is one of the most common questions I receive from my patients (usually accompanied by a skeptical smirk).

🤷‍♂️Qi holds any value in Western society and is very easily dismissed as some sort of voodoo mystical energy.🧟‍♂️

☝️But consider this:

⚗️ATP or Adenosine triphosphate is the energy required by all living things to function and survive.

🌱Qi is that exact same thing, essential E N E R G Y.

🌮😤BOTH are derived from food consumed and air breathed.

🤯ATP = Food + Air = Qi🤯

🤔So perhaps it’s all just different labels, from different time periods?

🙅🏼‍♂️I'm not a wizard ok? (Although I wish I was) 🧙🏼‍♂️

🍂The seasons are changing (boo) and with the transition to Autumn comes drier, cooler weather. And while all the leaf-death can be a beautiful sight, this time of the year can be especially strenous on the Lungs.😤🤧

⛑️Pears and Ginger to the Rescue!

🍐Pears are delicious and crispy Earth-candy loaded with fiber, copper, and vitamins C & K. À la TCM, they help clear and moisten the Lungs to help with that dry cough and soothe that sore throat. 😷

🔥Ginger targets the Lungs directly and is going to help warm and boost the body's energy while it battles the decreasing temperatures. (Bring it on Jack Frost ❄️😎)

🍯Try baking the pears with ginger and honey for a delicious, nutritious, Lung boosting desert!

Bring it on Fall! 🍁🍂

P.S. a lil acupuncture doesn't hurt either - come visit me New Balance Chiropractic Clinic to give your lungs and immune system a little extra oomph. 💪
