I know I did a video but not everyone wants to listen to me chatter for 4 minutes, lol.
The clothing swap was yet again so amazing!! The community building vibe, the laughter, the fashion shows, the finding of the "perfect" / "it was made just for me" piece, all of it - was just the best!!
I'm grateful for every person who attends and spends some time with us - our world needs more connection and community!!!
My heart is full 🩵🩵🩵

I only started this journey out of the grip of diet culture 13 years ago... Here's a glimpse at my headspace as I started (you'll notice i use language I no longer use today as I've learned so much in 13 years, but I've kept it in as a true account):

*****

Most days when I hear about the latest "thing" (aka diet/cleanse/visit to a dietician/naturopath/etc) one of my friends is going to do, I think to myself, maybe I ought to get on that and just lose the weight that way... HAHAHAHAHAHA... but GUESS WHAT??? Been there done that!!! It's not that I've not tried almost everything out there or that I haven't seen a dietician or naturopath or done this diet or that cleanse because likely I have!!! Trust me!!! The issue is readiness for change and my head space. I know what they ALL say and I know what it would take for ME personally to lose the weight... but I can't say that I'm willing to eat that way for the rest of my life. I HONESTLY can't and I KNOW in my heart of hearts for me to lose weight and KEEP it OFF that is what I would have to do for SURE! So instead of being hard on myself and not loving myself where I am and at what size/weight I'm working on THAT before I go to ANOTHER professional or seek out ANOTHER weight loss gimmick... I don't need a gimmick to tell me to eat less crap and eat more real food... I don't need a professional to tell me to cut out this and that.
I've dieted every year of my life since I was 12 years old and I'm 34 now... most years I did 2-6 diets (or more) because nothing lasted longer than 2 or 3 weeks. The ONE time I lost 50 pounds and KEPT it off was with Jenny Craig in 2000 (I think) and then I kept it off and gained it back with pregnancy. So just "cutting this out" or "not adding that" isn't going to work anymore... my body is broken and doesn't TRUST me that I'm not going to binge again... I don't know that I trust myself not to do it again either. Do I do what I did in 2009 when hubby was away in Afghanistan - NOPE! But do I always make the most healthy choice - also NOPE!
From a clinical standpoint there are 5 stages of change:
1.Precontemplation
2. Contemplation
3. Developing a plan
4. Implementing a plan
5. Maintaining a plan.

I'm always in flux between stages 2 and 3 with a BRIEF dance now and then with stage 4. But right after I read all that in my fancy text book it reads: RELAPSE: IT HAPPENS TO EVERYONE!! I feel like I get stuck in relapse and forget I can MOVE ON and get back into stage 3 even - DEVELOPING A PLAN - because clearly, if I've relapsed , the old plan, wasn't quite right.
The contemplation stage (2) is where we are willing to explore but not yet willing to commit to change... yeppers - been there done that!!!
So here I sit, currently in the DEVELOPING A PLAN stage (ready to change but needing a plan) and wondering what is the best course of action to keep ME PERSONALLY out of the DIET MENTALITY?!?!?
The hardest part is this is not something anyone else in my circle is really into - so I'm going at this alone... it's a tough journey to keep away from fads and gimmicks and just focus on being a healthy version of ME!!! Women are ALWAYS sad with their bodies and talking about SOMETHING weight related... so if we're friends in the real world and I don't engage in these conversations, please understand why - but if you want to talk about CHANGING YOUR HEAD SPACE, I'M IN!!!!
