LETTER TO MYSELF #3

How come you never listen,
to the love others give you?
Why do you keep second guessin',
your self worth and your value?

How come you're insecure,
and you feel so very weak?
And why do you ignore,
all the love, that you do seek?

How come you feel so low,
even when others raise you up?
Why won't your spirit grow,
and how come you feel so stuck?

How come you try so hard,
to love yourself for who you are?
Don't you know you've come so far
You are a light, inside the dark

You still feel it's not enough
No matter what you do
But you are more than enough
After all that you've been through

COMFORTABLY NUMB

There are times she feels so alone
Trying to do this thing called living
Aimlessly she wanders and roams
A path that's rocky and unforgiving

There are times she wants to quit
She's trying so hard to rid her depression
It isn't easy she must admit
Sometimes she feels it's her only possession

She is so comfortable feeling this way
A familiar place to be
And sometimes she would rather stay
In the dark, instead of free

Some people just don't understand
When you've been through trauma and pain
It doesn't matter who holds your hand
Things will never be the same

A PICTURE OF ME

This is what it can feel like with emotional intensity disorder. Sometimes the emotions take over so deeply that I don't know how to process anything.
Do you know how this feels? You are not alone.

ASK ME

Ask me now, what went wrong
Why I made so many mistakes
Where did I lose my heartbeats song
And why my soul began to quake

Ask me now, why I didn't listen
To that little voice inside my head
Telling me I needed help or
I would soon be left for dead

Ask me why, I couldn't feel pain
Pain that kept me in the dark
Because I wanted to heal but not to feel
Past trauma that ripped me apart

Ask me why I learned to numb
To live with blinders as I walked
As for me, I was part of the problem
Addiction took me on the spot

Progressive, incurable, and fatal, they say
It can be arrested but never cured
An addict I will always stay
But my recovery is not obscure

Ask me how I took off the chains
That binded me and held me down
For freedom comes to those in pain
Even when they start to drown
