Let’s break the cycle of setting ourselves up for failure after New Years. Alot of us fall in to this “new year, new me” trap and we set very high expectations for what we are going to accomplish in the next 12 months. The first few weeks/months we might be able to honour those expectations, but then life gets busy or we just don’t enjoy the plan that we set up, so we stop honouring those commitments. Then, you feel guilty about not meeting those commitments and expectations. For a lot of us, these goals are food/ fitness related.
If you ARE wanting to wanting to give more focus on improving your nutritional health at this time of the year, work with a Registered Dietitian (RD). Instead of teaching you a bunch of food rules used in many fad diets (keto, IF, paleo etc), most RDs will teach you things like building a satisfying and well rounded meal, hunger and satiety cues, IBS/GERD triggers and more. We won’t force you to eat foods you don’t like either 👎
For me, I have one habit that I want to form in the new year. My body often feels stiff from sitting lots through out the day at work, and I know that it feels better when I stretch. I found a yoga routine that I really like, which takes 7 minutes to complete. My goal is to try to stretch atleast 5 times per week to keep my body feeling good. I’m striving for consistency, but not perfection.
With that being said, know that if you are struggling at this time of year, whether it be financially, emotionally or to balance all of the commitments of life, YOU DON’T TO SET GOALS RIGHT NOW EITHER. It’s okay just to keep your head above water without adding more onto your plate.
I hope that you’ve found atleast a few moments of happiness during this holiday season. Looking forward to connecting with you in the new year ✨
