Save the date for the annual online Harm Reduction Symposium

This year’s symposium, “It’s Time to Listen,” is about ending stigma and elevate the voices of people with lived experience. We will provide a platform from people who use substances, their families, and those who support them. They will share their struggles, strength, and success stories.

We will highlight voices from Indigenous communities and talk about the need for better in-patient policies to support people in care. We will also share stories that put a human face on this crisis and show how outreach programs are bringing health care to people who face unfair health gaps.

We recognize the people affected by substance use and the workers who help reduce harm and save lives.

Substance use disorder is a health issue—not a moral failure. Laws and health policies must reflect this. Harm reduction should be a top priority for the public, leaders, and health workers. We need better public education, stronger health care training, teamwork across professions, and creative community programs. It’s time to work together and build a more connected and caring system.
You will hear about real programs that reduce stigma and make a difference—from grassroots efforts to team-based care models. These examples show what is possible when harm reduction is at the center of care. Let’s create real change together, where harm reduction is a foundation of care for everyone.

The event is free. Donations are welcome and will go to local harm reduction projects in New Brunswick through Avenue B Inc. The event will offer English and French closed captioning.

Don’t’ think that HIV has disappeared, it hasn’t.
Stigma can create barriers to people getting tested. Learn more about it.

Everyone deserves access to stigma-free, non-judgmental health care, including for HIV. Stigma often prevents people from seeking out care to begin with. Join NHRC on March 25 for our webinar, “HIV Stigma: Creating Barriers for Testing and Treatment.” We'll focus on the concept of stigma and its various levels while exploring how it manifests in many ways, impacting people’s willingness to get tested and treated. Fierté Fredericton Pride is pleased to help amplify an important community-guided research project. Under One Sky is partnering with Trevor Breen, a Two-Spirit Mi’kmaw and Irish social worker and PhD researcher at UNB, to explore Two-Spirit experiences of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). 🌈👏

This project is grounded in Two-Eyed Seeing, guided by Elders, and centered on cultural safety. There are two voluntary ways for community members to participate:

1️⃣ Land-Based Healing Sessions 🌿

Under One Sky will host eight seasonal gatherings focused on connection and culture.

• Low Pressure: These are not interviews. No recording or note-taking.
• Focus: Being on the land and in community.
• First Session: "Quilwork" on February 27.
• Register here: https://forms.gle/LQUA8P1niboPVuQ29

2️⃣ One-on-One Conversations 🗣️

Participants can choose to have private, confidential discussions with Trevor.

• Participant-Led: You control what is shared and how it is used.
• Goal: To ensure research findings are rooted in lived experience and safety.

Together, these pathways ensure the work remains ethical, respectful, and community-informed.

We’re looking for a little love this Coldest Night of the Year! ❤️

Coldest Night of the Year wouldn’t be possible without the amazing people who show up to support our walkers—and right now, we’re looking for volunteer route marshals to help make the night safe, fun, and unforgettable.

As a route marshal, you’ll be stationed at a key corner or intersection and supported by a route captain. You’ll hold a CNOY sign (we provide it!), cheer on walkers, help guide them along the route, and let them know how far they’ve come—and how close they are to the next rest stop.

We’re looking for friendly, positive people who love encouraging others. You’ll be outside for about 2 to 2.5 hours, so bundle up and bring your best smile—your energy will make a real difference. If you can share a little time and a lot of heart, we’d love to have you on the team.

Sign up today: https://cnoy.org/location/fredericton

Thank you for helping us create a night full of warmth, hope, and community.

February 28th - 4 to 7 pm
Monsignor Boyd Family Centre
120 Regent Street, Fredericton
