I used to be so focused on avoiding pain that I stopped moving altogether.

My physio invited me into a different approach: keep the body moving, just more gently, with low-impact movement that supports my joints and my nervous system.

Getting on the stationary bike isn’t about pushing hard or chasing numbers. It is about staying in motion, rebuilding my cardio slowly, and letting my body remember what strength and warmth feel like from the inside out.

Giving myself permission to move — and to change how I move — has been incredibly freeing. If you are in a season of recovery, you are allowed to move differently and still call it progress.

What movement are you giving yourself permission for this week? Share below or save for your own gentle reminder. 👇❤️

51 beautiful souls joined me today for Chair Yoga — and my heart is so full. ❤️

What started as a small idea — a way to give back to the community and make yoga accessible for everyone — has blossomed into something that continues to warm me from the inside out.
Today’s class was a reminder that inner warmth isn’t just something we find in movement, breath, or stillness… it’s something we create together. Each shared smile, stretch, and moment of connection brings light into my week.

I’m deeply grateful for this community, for the joy this practice brings, and for the opportunity to share yoga in a way that feels inclusive, gentle, and full of heart.

Thank you all for showing up — for yourselves and for each other. 🌿🪑✨

Starting the new year with a moment of movement 💫 In today’s video, I’m doing a gentle leg stretch — you can join me — to encourage circulation and build warmth through the lower body. It is not the type of stretch that matters, but rather taking the moment to actually take care of my body and my needs.

This January, I’ve created a special 30-day “Cultivating Inner Warmth” calendar filled with simple daily actions to support body, mind, and heart through the winter season.

I didn’t even realize my son had taken my phone until later — but when I saw the video he captured of me spraying the rink, my heart melted a little. 💧❄️

Seeing myself through his eyes reminded me how powerful perspective really is. Children notice what we often miss — the shimmer of water, the rhythm of quiet care, the way warmth shows up even in the cold. 🌬️✨

For January’s theme, Creating Inner Warmth, this felt like the perfect reflection. Inner warmth grows from love, play, and the simple joy of being seen.

Here’s to finding that warmth within — and seeing ourselves through gentler eyes this winter. 🤍

Doing something as simple as making the bed can feel like a quiet act of rebellion against chaos. This isn’t about having a perfect home; it’s about offering my nervous system one small, dependable pocket of calm to come back to.

Creating inner warmth isn’t always candles and long mornings. Sometimes it’s straightening the sheets, fluffing the pillows, and telling yourself, “I’m worth living in a space that feels cared for.” Every tuck, smooth, and fold is a reminder that I’m allowed to feel held—in my room, in my body, and in my life.

If making your bed is the only thing you do for yourself today, it still counts as care. You are allowed to let small, ordinary routines be proof that you haven’t given up on yourself.

Gliding under Christmas lights on the backyard rink—pure magic, even if you can only see my silhouette in the glow. All bundled up against the cold, but moving like this creates a warmth that starts in my chest and spreads.

This is inner warmth in winter motion: the kind that comes when your body remembers it’s safe to play, to breathe deep in crisp air, to let joy flicker like these lights even after the holidays fade. No perfection required—just showing up for yourself in the dark, cold night, one stride at a time. Creating warmth isn’t always cozy blankets; sometimes it’s this exact feeling of being alive and held by your own steady rhythm.

What’s your version of this tonight?

Exploring neurofeedback has felt like opening a new window into my own mind, and seeing my personal brain map for the first time was both humbling and empowering. It gave a visual snapshot of how my brain is functioning day-to-day, and where it might be craving more balance and regulation.

Neurofeedback uses real-time brainwave information to gently train the brain toward healthier, more regulated patterns, supporting things like focus, sleep, mood, and stress resilience. Having my brain map completed means future training can be tailored specifically to my unique patterns, which aligns so deeply with how healing should be: individualized, compassionate, and nervous-system informed.

Feeling curious, hopeful, and honestly a little nerdy about what this could mean for nervous system healing, trauma work, and mental health moving forward. This is one more tool I get to explore as both a human and a therapist walking this path alongside my clients.

As January’s theme of creating inner warmth unfolds, this journey feels like tending a small fire inside—gently supporting my nervous system so it can feel safer, softer, and more at home in my own body. Brain mapping and neurofeedback are one way I’m choosing to nurture that inner glow from the inside out.

Creating inner warmth is my theme for January. This time of year can feel cold, heavy, and pressured to “do better,” but what many of us really need is to feel safer and softer inside. Inner warmth, to me, is that felt sense of being held—from the inside out—through kind self-talk, gentle movement, and moments of real connection.

This month, I’ll be sharing tiny practices to help you bring more warmth into your nervous system and your daily life: a kinder thought, a calming breath, a cosy ritual, or a conversation that reminds you you’re not alone. You don’t have to overhaul your life to feel different—small, steady choices can slowly thaw the freeze, soften the tension, and make your days feel just a little more livable.

If “creating inner warmth” is something you’re craving too—emotionally, physically, or relationally—you’re so welcome here. And if your next step includes counselling support, my 1:1 spots for winter are open; you can reach out by message or through my website to learn more or book a session (link in the bio).

Hi, I’m Melissa, the Owner and Licensed Counselling Therapist behind Zenful Counselling & Yoga here in New Brunswick.

I support folks who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, or past trauma to create more ease, authenticity, and fulfillment in their everyday lives.

When I first started this work, I didn’t do it for myself—I did it for my kids. Loving them pushed me to become the kind of adult who could break patterns instead of passing them on. Shoutout to them for this photo that captures my most authentic daily self, sweatpants and all.

Now my purpose is simple: to show people how to heal themselves by example.

I do my own messy, ongoing inner work and bring that same compassion, practicality, and honesty into every client session, workshop, class, and retreat.

If you’re ready to:
• Feel more grounded in your body instead of stuck in your head
• Say yes to your needs without so much guilt
• Start healing for yourself, your kids, or the next version of you

You’re welcome here, exactly as you are.

I offer online and in‑person counselling, yoga, Reiki, oracle card readings, and private retreats designed to support your mind, body, and spirit.

Whatever your motivation, it is enough to start.

Send me a message or share this post with someone who might be looking for a safe place to land. Now accepting new clients!
