Sometimes the smallest changes shift the whole feel of a space.

We gave our reception wall a fresh coat of paint — moving from a cool grey-blue to a warm terra cotta tone.

Then we ran a little unofficial experiment with our practice:

Some people didn’t notice at all.
Some noticed something was different… but couldn’t quite remember the old colour.
And some spotted it immediately and told us how much warmer the space felt.

It’s funny how our brains work with familiar environments — we see them every week, but subtle changes can slip right by us.

Either way, we’re loving the cozy new vibe in our space!

4 lesser-known (and free) ways to improve pain

Pain is influenced by more than just your symptomatic tissues and joints. These simple, no-cost habits can have a powerful impact on how your nervous system processes pain:

🧠 Meditation
Regular mindfulness practices help calm the nervous system and reduce pain sensitivity.
➡️ the Insight Timer app has many free guided options.

🏃‍♀️ Movement that challenges your body
Aerobic exercise (walking, jogging, swimming), strength training (weights, body weight, bands), and mobility work (yoga, tai chi, stretching) all support pain reduction and resilience.

😴 Consistent, good-quality sleep
Sleep is when the body repairs, regulates inflammation, and resets pain pathways. Even small improvements matter.
➡️ Turn off tech, cooler temp, blackout blinds, go to bed earlier

🌿 Time in nature
As little as 10–20 minutes outdoors can lower stress hormones and help the nervous system heal

The 🦛 hippocampus is a part of the brain heavily involved in memory, learning, and decision making.

Here are two simple yet powerful ways to train it:

1️⃣ Explore and Recall

Try to experience novel places/spaces and try to vividly recall and replay them out loud. One of my favourite ways to do this as a family is to bring up pictures from past places or events and try to describe them in as much detail as possible. You’d be surprised which details younger children will remember if you practice this with them. It also builds emotional connection with a friend or family member who you experienced this memory with.

2️⃣ Move and Remember

Intense exercise is linked with memory. During intense exercise, your brain releases BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor) which is vital to encourage plasticity in the hippocampus (helps it grow new and stronger connections).

Next time you are exercising, vividly recall and re-live past positive events (a vacation, a win, a proud moment) in as much detail as possible.

Both these strategies will help you build a stronger, healthier brain.

At a time of big New Year resolutions and sweeping changes that don’t always last… remember the little things.

It’s the small, consistent habits that will move the needle towards better health over time:

🚶‍♀️ a daily 20-minute walk
💧 drinking 2+ litres of water
🌬️ getting fresh air daily
📝 writing down 5 things you’re grateful for every morning or night

They may seem simple — but repeated day after day, they add up to meaningful change in your body, your mindset, and your wellbeing.
