Why everyone should have the training!

On July 17, 1967, Florida lineman Randall Champion was hit with 4,000 volts of electricity after touching a high-voltage line. His heart stopped instantly. His coworker and friend J.D. Thompson rushed to help, climbing up and giving him mouth-to-mouth until paramedics arrived. Champion survived and even went back to work the next week.

By chance, Rocco Morabito, a photographer for the Jacksonville Journal, was below and captured the dramatic moment. His photo, later called "The Kiss of Life," became one of the most powerful images ever taken.

Very important! Have a plan!
Be prepared!

Every household needs an evacuation plan and emergency preparedness kit.
Being prepared can keep you and your family safe:
• Make a plan: Every household needs to know what to do in case of a wildfire and it takes less than 30 minutes to make a plan. Write it down, give family and friends copies, and keep it in a safe place.
• Monitor local information: Pay attention to the news and check the New Brunswick Fire Watch website (gnb.ca/firewatch) regularly.
• Be ready to evacuate: New Brunswickers should have transportation and a pre-packed backpack or bag containing essential supplies to help them to evacuate from their community if needed. Basics include water, food, blanket, flashlights, radio, batteries, first aid kit, prescription medications, infant formula, cash, and a spare set of clothes.

We always teach about having a 72 hour plan in case of emergency (power outage, ice storm, etc). So along with this, keep in mind a first aid kit, medications needed for family members, & so on!

Stay safe! & let’s hope for rain! 🌧️☔️🌧️

Wildfire risks are increasing across the province. It’s important to be prepared well in advance.

You can make a difference in wildfire resilience by developing an evacuation plan and inspecting your home ignition zone.

Preston Houle, 29 from Portage la Prairie, was at the beach with his fiancée and their three children on July 18, 2025 when they heard a woman screaming for help.

A 2 year old boy had been playing in the water with other children when he did not resurface. He was pulled from the water not breathing.

Preston Houle ran over to the mother holding her unconscious child. Houle put the child on the ground and began giving him chest compressions to try and revive him. Houle's fiancée called 911 after finding service. The toddler coughed up some water, the paramedics came, treated the boy and took him to hospital in stable condition.

The child is expected to make a complete recovery.

Houle said he had never used his CPR training before. He initially took first aid training at 18, and kept his certification up to date when he had children.

Preston Houle, you are a hero. Your actions saved a life and much heartbreak.

If this inspires anyone, please sign up for a first aid course. You could also be instrumental in saving a life someday.
