Locally, Sempai Dale Hinchey will offer two kyudo (Japanese meditative archery) classes this summer. These are open to anyone and may be of particular interest to those considering participating in Shibata Sensei’s program at DDL.
First Summer Class:
Sunday, July 6th, at Shibata Meadows at Dale’s home , (44 Maple Grove Road, Maple Grove NB) 11 am to 4 pm with a lunch break from 1 until 2pm, ( please bring your own lunch).
First shot instruction will be available but limited to 3 individuals, so new comers should register with me early.
There is no teaching fee for the class. People without yumi (bow) will be requested to pay an equipment use fee of $15.00.
Second Summer Class:
Sunday, August 17, at Fredericton Shambhala Center, 11 am to 4 pm with lunch from 1 pm to 2 pm., (bring your own lunch please.) First shot instruction will be available for 3 people, newcomers please register early to have a spot.
There will be no teaching fee for this class but a donation of $30 dollars to the Center is expected and appreciated for the use of their buildings and grounds.
You can register at: http://www.frederictonshambhala.org.
The class will open with a formal reisha offering ( Manner shooting), with Nuie as Kazue ( assistant) and David as Yatori who will make the
arrow renewal offering to the upper shrine at the Center. This will allow those present to see Ho SHa ( offering shooting).
For those who are interested in obtaining a hand-crafted yumi from Sensei, he would be able to deliver it at the September program at Dorje Denma Ling. Anyone interested in a yumi should contact me soonest so the necessary information may be gathered in terms of strength and fit.
The program is also an excellent opportunity with this family of ancient kyudo lineage from Kyoto Japan. This may be Sensei's last trip to the West because he is retiring and will restrict his future international travel.
Thank you and Yours truly,
Dale HInchey, Kyudo Sempai, Shibata Meadows
