NOVA SCOTIA'S DEEDEE AUSTIN RECEIVES GOLDEN BUZZER ON CANADA'S GOT TALENT - DeeDee Austin, a talented young musician from Fall River, N.S, and the Abegweit First Nation in P.E.I., received Howie Mandel's Golden Buzzer on tonight’s episode of Canada’s Got Talent.
Performing an emotional original song titled Buried Truth, DeeDee drew inspiration from her late great-grandmother, a survivor of the Shubenacadie Residential School. DeeDee was just three-years-old when her great-grandmother passed away, but her story lives on through DeeDee’s music. Howie Mandel was visibly moved by the performance, saying, “I felt like when you were singing, I was listening to the voice and the story told by your grandmother.” He continued, “What you're doing is not only great, it’s important,” He acknowledge the difficulty of DeeDee’s journey while pledging his support. Moments later, he hit the Golden Buzzer, sending her directly to the next round and awarding her $25,000.
Now a Golden Buzzer recipient, DeeDee says her ambition is to share her story and songs in hopes of inspiring others to chase their dreams.
